Subject: q regarding Poser 7 and Real Skin Shader

Whimsical ( ) posted Fri, 09 March 2007 at 1:36 AM · edited Sun, 02 February 2025 at 9:47 AM

Am considering upgrading to P7.  Am curious to know tho if face_off's Real Skin Shader works ok in P7 or not.

Am asking coz I dont see a P7 version available and I've not been notified of any updates for it so am not sure if i should assume it works as usual or... not?

A few of the other scripts I have, have been upgraded for P7. Would hate to loose the functionality and use of RSS tho if i do upgrade coz i really like it and find it sooo useful

Any info appreciated :-))

Grr dont seem to be able to edit my post.

By other scripts I am refering to GlowWorm, Wardrobe Wizzard etc. Sorry dont want to cause any confusion with ppl thinking they'd missed updates to other scripts by face_off

Tried it few days ago, it worked with Poser 7 SR1.

Whimsical ( ) posted Fri, 09 March 2007 at 3:45 AM

thanks Solo761.. that is excellent for me to know..
but.... now from what i've been reading in a variety of threads here.. if poser 7 sr1 would work... then that would be great!  lol

does anyone know if it also works ok with poser 7 minus SR1?

Real Skin Shader works for me in straight P7.  PhilC has updated WW for P7.  Also, the Unimesh Realism kit works fine for me.

I haven't installed the SR1 yet - too many issues right now and my P7 functions just fine without it.

Face_off's scripts aren't compiled to any set version of Python so they should work in every version of poser above Poser5.

I've used it in P7 and the render looks fine, although in the preview once you've applied the shader the figure looks like he belongs in a leper colony. here is a quick exampla for u. R

lol re the leper colony.  wonder why it does that :-S

Use Depth map shadows.

I had that yesterday. :D It was god-hard to diagnose.

I can't get it to work for me!

I installed P7 when it first came out and it worked great then. Since I last successfully used RSS, two things have happened...I installed SR1 and upgraded to Windows Vista. One of those two things I think made RSS stop working.

Here is what the script comes back with when I use it now:

RealSkinShader V1.1

Instructions : Prior to running this script, select the figure you want to apply the nodes to,
and then select the main scene light (this will generally be the brightest light in your
scene).  Note: do not parent your main light to another figure, since then you will not be
able to select the correct figure and light.

Selected figure is  YoungV3
Incidence Light = Light 3
Traceback (most recent call last):

    gFile = open (TempFilename,"w")
IOError: [Errno 13] Permission denied: 'C:SkinShaderTemp.pz2'

Based on the last line, it appears to be a permissions problem but I think I have myself administratively wide open (still getting used to Vista)...still no go.

dunno if this would help?

*Data Execution Prevention Off
Data Execution Prevention (DEP) is a security feature introduced in Windows XP, Windows Server 2003 and now in Windows Vista that looks for malicious code. If DEP’s analysis makes it think that executing code will cause unwanted activity, DEP intervenes and shuts the process down.

Sounds good in theory, but often DEP shuts down legitimate programs. Equally often, DEP fails to show any warning telling you it shut a process, leaving you wondering.

You might want to turn off DEP globally by issuing the following at an elevated command prompt (i.e., a shell running with administrative credentials): bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOff

Thank you **Whimsical! **I'll try it!

Now if I can just figure out how to run a command prompt in Vista...

Once again I'm grateful for the info Whimsical! Now let's see if I can make RSS work again.

I sometimes get

Quote - H:_Poser 7RuntimePythonlibwhrandom.py:38: DeprecationWarning: the whrandom module is deprecated; please use the random module
  DeprecationWarning)

error when starting RSS, RSS window still appears though. But when I try to render a scene in which it happened poser crashes when it starts to render. Luckily, if I close RSS when that error appears, and start it again, in most cases error doesn't repeat itself and rendering works fine.

face_off ( ) posted Tue, 17 July 2007 at 9:04 PM

Only just found this thread....

Solo - see this link for info on the depreciation warning.

samhal - you are getting that warning because Vista is not letting the script write to the C: drive.  See this link for info on how to fix this error.

Thanks for the tip, but I don't own RealSkinShader, I only had chance to play with it few times :). But no doubt it'll be usefull info for some.

BTW. about not being able to write to C: drive, is it perhaps UAC issue? UAC is good idea, but bothers too much, maybe they should have added option for it to work like software firewalls do. So we can set which applications can do what without annoying popup every time.
