...make Vue 6 fall over?

Try this: run Vue, load the sample scene 'Above the clouds' and choose the atmosphere editor.

Works every time here (seriously, I'd be interested to know if anyone else gets this or if it's just my system).

Sorry to say - no crash here.

I don't have any problems opening the atmosphere editor with this scene. Mac G5 2.5GHz, 8G RAM, OS 10.4.6, Vue 6.05 289768

What version of Vue and what build for update are you using......:)

V6I, version 6.05-04, build 289768. On a PC running win xp pro.

Looks like I'll have to try a reinstall, see if that fixes it.

Thanks for the responses everyone - at least this doesn't sound like a V6 problem!

I have plenty of other ways to crash vue 6 but the scene you said to try opens ok for me. :)
I am using same build and version as you.

Okay, a further look shows that turning off OpenGL hardware acceleration allows me to open this file and the atmosphere editor. I've got the latest drivers but the video card is a bit elderly - it's an nVidia GeForce 6600. Works fine for other things such as Poser 7 and C4D, though.

I'd value opinions on whether a newer card might help with this - and if so, what's a reasonable (i.e. reasonably-priced) nVidia card to buy? But I'm reluctant to throw money at the problem if it won't help!

Steve,

I'm pretty sure your 6600 should work fine. Why don't you try updating the drivers? Usually that works :-)

If not, you might try Googling GeoForce 7600GT
I have it and it works great on my WinXP system and you should be able to find it for around $100.

Online Now!

Personally I'd wait until e-on release the update for the final version, lots of peeps are having lots of different problems and what works for one doesn't for another and vice versa!
If the update doesn't sort it then look at other things!

No crash here.

I've upgraded my card from a 7900 GT 256 to a 7900 gtx 512 and I notice everything running faster and better.  From poser to vue to image & video editors, everything is significantly better.  I had no idea the gtx cards were that much better than gt cards.

Thanks all. Yes, I'm running the latest nVidia drivers - I updated them about two weeks ago and I've just checked again, these are the latest ones.

fixer, I think that's good advice - I can live with Vue in software OpenGL mode until then at least.

Thanks chipp and cobraeye for the recommendations - these look like good, mid-level cards if I need to change my current one.

I am using and old antique GeForce FX5200 and it still works fine for me with Vue 6.  That is if Vue 6 were fixed. :)
