Subject: Crop to a Size?

Is there a way in CS2 to crop to a certain size, like 1024 x 768?  I think from what I've read in the help files that each custom crop size has to be defined first.  Is that the only way?

I'm coming from the PhotoImpact world where one could initiate a crop and type in the desired (crop) size and then move the crop window to the desired position.

Try selecting the "Rectangular Marquee Tool" **1**

 

Then select "Fixed Size" from the drop menu. 2

 

Then type  1024 in "Width" 3

 

Then type 768 in "Height" 4

 

Then drag the selection to where you want it. 5

 

Once you have what you want..Select  Image > Crop. (Not Shown in image)

 

That outta do it.

If I'm not mistaken, you can type dimensions in the tool bar across the top of the page when you select the Crop Tool.

Yes, but it's really no different than setting the size for the Marquee Tool as well - here's how you'd go about it for a specifically desired PIXEL size - otherwise you just give the dimensions you want.

BTW - YES I posted to make it 1ppi above - that is to get the exact size you want - go into Image>Image Size> and uncheck Resample, then change the dpi to 72.

If you make your Info Box visible you get an interactive display of the size of crop.

Also from the info box flyout you can get to the pallette options and set the ruler units to pixels. Or if you don't want to change them you can overide the current ruler units by typing in "1024 px" and "768 px" as Lew suggested. No messing about with dpi or resampling!
