I bought the latest 3D World Mag...and lo and behold...free Vue2! I love this program!! You can bet I will be buying the upgrade as soon as I have the cash. It's so much less of a headache than Bryce. I know it sux...but hey...I have had it for 2 days ya know? LOL! I did have to do some effects in PSP. I haven't gotten the hang of the sun and stuff yet. :o)

Hi, And welcome to the Vue d'Esprit forum! :) That picture certainly doesn't "suck"! Glad to hear you're enjoying Vue 2, and I can promise you that you will enjot Vue 3 even more... But, you managed to find the place to ask your questions at, so whenever you run acros anything confusing, just ask, and someone will be along to help out. This forum has been accused of being one of the nicest and friendliest around, but you'll figure that out soon enough. :) Nice to meet ya! :) -Mike

Thank you so much for the nice welcome. It's more than I usually get on the other forums. LOL! I absolutely am in love with this program. Scenes are what I seem to have the most trouble with and somehow...I think that is going to change now. 8O) I am just panting for 3.1...I can't wait until next week when I can free up some cash! Ya know...this growing addiction to these programs is going to put me in the poorhouse, but it's worth it! I haven't been this inspired in a long long time! grin

Do you know where I can get some more vegetation? Or should I just wait until I get the upgrade to get more? Does 3.1 vegetation work in Vue 2?

MikeJ ( ) posted Sat, 12 May 2001 at 6:42 AM

I don't know about any new veggies for Vue 2, sorry, but sooner or later one of the Vue 2 users will come along and have something to say I'm sure. No, the Vue 3.1 veggies won't work in Vue 2, sorry to say, but if all you have to do is wait until next week, e-on's site has plenty of veggies for Vue 3. Oh, you'll get even more addicted to Vue as time goes on, that's for sure! We're ALL in love with Vue around here! :)

nikitacreed ( ) posted Sat, 12 May 2001 at 6:46 AM

Thanks!:o) In that case I will just wait until I get the upgrade.

MikeJ ( ) posted Sat, 12 May 2001 at 6:49 AM

Yeah, that'd be the best thing, really--- Vue 3.1 has alot which Vue 2 doesn't. And guess what? Vue 4 will be out soon...soon..wew ALL hope soon... :)

tesign ( ) posted Sat, 12 May 2001 at 7:02 AM

Welcome :) Very nice glowing sun....why not wait for Vue 4?

nikitacreed ( ) posted Sat, 12 May 2001 at 8:39 AM

Vue 4 will be full price for me. I can't afford that right now. With the free copy in 3D World mag...I can get 3.1 upgrade for only $99. That I can afford. LOL! Later on I will update to Vue 4...but for now...I gotta pinch pennies.:o)

Velen ( ) posted Sat, 12 May 2001 at 8:53 AM

Hate to burst your bubble. But the upgraid dosent apply to the Mag release of Vue 2 you will have to pay the full price for Vue 3.X as well. so you may as well wait for Vue 4 then 3 will proly be a much lower prive as Vue 2 is now. as to more Veg for Vue 2 go to 3D cafe or some of the other web sites and dl the free bies from them. then go to www.bakter.com and dl Accutrans its a converter program so you can convert 3ds and others to ojb format. OJB is the format Vue 2.1 accepts. Hope this helps Vel

MikeJ ( ) posted Sat, 12 May 2001 at 9:00 AM

Actually there IS an upgrade offer from Vue 2 to Vue 3. That was 99 pounds, not 99 dollars though. I think it works out to around 149 dollars. Probably not what you wanted to hear. :( I keep hoping Varian or Guitta or someone else who's been around and using Vue from the beginning will show up to offer some Vue 2 information for you. As for me, I never got Vue until version 3.1 came out.

Velen ( ) posted Sat, 12 May 2001 at 9:13 AM

Hi Mike :) yep on the 99 pound as the price is so close to standard and is the same or nealy the same as Vue 3 on DV I see it as a full price. the corect url for the converter program that works well and is free is http://bakhter.com go to 3D converters and you will see the link to Accutrans. Have fun :)

Velen ( ) posted Sat, 12 May 2001 at 9:18 AM

PS I will be uploading a few trees and plants for Vue 2 in about a week here in the freebee area in Vue2 format so you will be able to add thows to the plants you have if you want to see what they look like. look at a few of the back posts I have here the trees are in them :) later time for work Vel

nikitacreed ( ) posted Sat, 12 May 2001 at 9:27 AM

I checked the site. The price said "Upgrade from Vue 2: US$99.-" . They also advertised the upgrade in the 3D world Mag stating that the upgrade did apply to the free copy in the mag. I could still use those Vue 2 plants...just in case I can't free up the cash next week. LOL!

MikeJ ( ) posted Sat, 12 May 2001 at 9:27 AM

Thanks Vel, And if your trees are aas good as your artwork, I'll be looking forward to seeing them. :)

Axe555 ( ) posted Sat, 12 May 2001 at 11:38 AM

The upgrade price from the free version of Vue 2 is $145 US dollars. Thats how I got 3.1. I think there were two free plants at e-ons web site that worked with 2.1, but I don't remember wich ones they were. What you can do is try all of them, (4 or 5 maybee?) and the ones that generate an error message when you open your vegetation browser are for 3.1. All you have to do then is delet them from your vegetation folder. I agree with Mike. This picture certainly doesn't suck! I really like the sun and it's reflection in the water. It's a very peacefull scene. Rich

Varian ( ) posted Sat, 12 May 2001 at 12:32 PM

Welcome to Vue! You did a very nice job on the scene, especially with the sun (which usually comes out rather flat-looking, but that will be changing with v.4). Sounds like Velen is working on some alternate materials for v.2 plants. Changing the materials on the plants can make it seem like you have more plants to work with, so that is cool. :) The freebie v.2 has a special upgrade offer in the magazine itself. It's 99 pounds ($145USD), and is different from the v.2->v.3 upgrade listed on the website. No one knows yet if there is any special upgrade from the freebie v.2->v.4. If you need to stick with v.3 for awhile, though, don't despair. We've all been using v.3 for over a year, and it is quite excellent! Naturally there will be new features with v.4, but I haven't been UNhappy with v.3 whatsoever. And you can browse the Vue d'Esprit gallery here to see what all can be achieved with it. :) Varian -- Treasures d'Esprit (version 3 items)

Daffy34 ( ) posted Sat, 12 May 2001 at 2:57 PM

Hiya nikitacreed! Varian and the rest are correct about the upgrade price for the free mag version of Vue 2...it's not $99 U.S, but $145 (or is it $149?) U.S. Still a savings of $40 from regular full version of Vue 3 if you bought it new from e-on's site. :) The only 2 free vegetations that I know of that will work with Vue 2 from e-on are the Winter Pear and the Cactus. That's what I remember. There are paying veges that work in Vue 2...the veges that don't work with Vue 2 are noted as being Vue 3 only on e-on's site, so you won't have to guess :). Laurie

nikitacreed ( ) posted Sat, 12 May 2001 at 10:11 PM

Thanks everyone for the comments on my scene:o) The sun looks so nice because I added it in postwork. LOL! I had to use Flaming Pear's Flood to get a good reflection. Really...it wasn't an amazing feat. LOL! Well...crap....I can't afford $149 bucks right now....so I guess it's no upgrade for me for awhile.:o( It owuld have been nice if they had made that info a little easier to locate. I saw the regular upgrade price and thought that applied to everyone. Were they just planning on charging my card for $149 when I ordered a product I thought was $99?

Varian ( ) posted Sat, 12 May 2001 at 10:29 PM

If you check the magazine, you'll see it's noted as being 99 pounds, not dollars. It is, after all, a UK magazine. :) I used version 2 for, well, I guess that was about a year, too...maybe a bit longer. I was quite happy with it, but I upgraded to 3 because "everyone" else had done so, and all the new goodies weren't working in 2. Materials, atmospheres, VOB objects. So you might find yourself wanting to upgrade. As Laurie pointed out, even in USD, the 99 pounds is still a savings. Perhaps you'll be able to swing it. If not, well, you've already demonstrated you can do some very nice work using 2! :)

nikitacreed ( ) posted Sat, 12 May 2001 at 10:40 PM

sigh I know it is a UK mag. I was talking about the upgrade price on e-on software's site. If it says the people with the mag only get it for $149, I didn't see it. I don't know the currency exchange rates and I am sure I am not the only one, so I assumed it was the same price since it was the only one listed. The only upgrade price in US dollars I saw at the site was $99. Even the "Order The Upgrade" from the registration page led me to that price list. That's what I get for assuming. LMAO! I may be able to swing it. I will have to see. Even if I have to wait a little longer, at least I can keep working in Vue2.;o)

Velen ( ) posted Sun, 13 May 2001 at 11:34 AM

Hi again :) If you look on E ons sight you will see Vue 2 is still for sale and is 99.00 so it is reasionable to beleave that once version 4 is released that version 3 will also be available for a reduces price. if the scuttle but is corect that will only be a month or so :). Vue 2 works very well and as you have the abiluty to do post work :) you will not be to hampered :) with what you can produce. as to the trees and other plants ill be uploading, they are compleatly made by myself, Im not doing the conversion thing with textures and Solidgroth plants. at this time im working on reduceing poly counts so otheres with less memory and or slower puters can use them with out problems. laters :)

BEAUTIFUL and much better than my first!!! S Verdie of Dreamspinner

nikitacreed ( ) posted Sun, 13 May 2001 at 5:23 PM

Thank Verdie:-) Velen - I am looking forward to those plants! I am enjoying Vue 2 so much I may sacrifice for an upgrade. Seems like I may as well wait and get Vue4 if I am going to spend the money. Thanks again everyone:o)

Varian ( ) posted Sun, 13 May 2001 at 8:59 PM

Velen, excuse my mis-assumption. Looking forward to seeing the new models! :) Emily, sounds like a good plan. I don't think you'll regret it, simply because Vue makes it so much fun to make whatever images you have in mind. :)
