Subject: Vicky 2.0 custom character distribution, the legal way!

I just checked with DAZ, and while the CR2 for Vicky 2.0 cannot be redistributed, pose files can be. This means if you dial a custom character or face that you want to share, you can save a pose and choose "yes" for "save morph settings" and it will save all the dial settings (you need poser 4.02 or 4.03 for that option to work). You can distribute the pose file only and it will snap the dials into place for anyone who owns vicky 2.0. I assume the same is true of face files, which may be a little smaller. MaryCanary

Well, that's interesting. Thanks. Though it begs the question (looking at certain stores on the net with Vic1 characters) who would pay 30-50 dollars for a pose file?

doesnt that kinda of defeat the purpose i mean all the characters free and sold ive done have used custom geometry so you would have to have the morph or the cr2 to use the character in essence what you are saying that youd just be buying somone else's time since you would already have everything the character requred you would have to be retarded to pay 20 to 50 for that !

I'm not sure I understand...does this mean if we want to make characters like Alleycat169 is, we have to sell them thru DAZ?? see the post "By Alleycat169 Gallery: Poser Now that Victoria 2.0 is out I can give you a sneak peek of some of the characters I have been developing with the help of DAZ3D. These new characters will be compatible with BOTH Victoria 1 & 2. Here's a little peek at the first one called "Babette", who is petite, voluptous and cute as a button. She will be available from DAZ3D next week.

The characters morfs you make need to be on the vicky1 cr2 it is on the site near either vicky 1 or 2

From what I have seen, heard, read... you CAN NOT distribute a Cr2 that has custom geometry in it, for sale or for free. If I am wrong, please correct me, and accept my apology.

Wyr--It depends on the permissions and restrictions of the props and morphs contained in the .cr2 file. If distributing the .cr2 file meets the licencing agreements of those contributors whose props, morphs, and customized body parts are used within the .cr2 file--then yes, the .cr2 file can be distributed for free (however--use of those props and morphs are still bound by the creator's original agreement--if the original creator of a particular prop restricts commercial use of his creation, then that restriction remains, regardless of how his prop is packaged: as his original .pp2 or .obj file, or as part of someone else's .pz3 or .cr2 file.) Whether you can distribute your .cr2 with props, etc. from third party sources depends largely on the licensing agreements set for use by the original creators.

Fre--You are right. If the Cr2 has custom geometries from any Poser original character or one purchased from Daz/Zygote, it can't be redistributed. That is what I meant. I wasn't even thinking about third party files.

I'm confused. LOL!

That's right guys, Vicki 2's CR2 cannot be redistributed. That means given away or sold. What you CAN sell for Vicki 2 is her PZ2 file, which is a pose file. Using text editing program you can create a custom MAT.pz2 file that contains basic info from the CR2 file and material data. You also need to make edited OBJ files for all affected body parts. This involves eliminating a number of morph targets and parameters. MorphMasher and BBEdit are useful for this. Babette and Brianon were tricky because they are meant to work with Vicki 1&2 but were created using Vicki 1. They both took weeks of work to get right. Creating a characters for Vicki 2 alone should be easier, mine were meant to be crossovers. They are the first and probably the last of their kind. Still confused? Contact Steve Kondris at daz3d.com (broker@daz3d.com) for more info on how to do it.

For a pose file, if it provided me a character I needed and wanted. I do NOT have the time needed to twiddle away at all the morph dials in V2, nor do I have nearly as much talent as some people here. If someone had a character (a look, face and body) that I could use then I would pay for that even if it was just a pose file - for that matter, iw ould probably PREFER it because I hate having to load down the system with more geometry. To keep it simple - if I can use it, I'll pay for it.
