Subject: How do I exchange an uploaded image?

wabe ( ) posted Fri, 23 March 2007 at 7:31 AM · edited Tue, 19 November 2024 at 5:33 AM

I made some minor modifications to an image I have uploaded today. I of course went to "edit" under the image and selected the new image I want to have instead of the one I have uploaded.

BUT, all I get is the old again. What is the process to do it correctly?

Btw, Mac 10.4.9 plus Firefox. If that has any relevance.

Ok, see it now. It is a refresh issue probably (I doubt on my side, before you close this issue). I am back to my old image after doing the exchange.

But when I close the window and go back to my image via gallery ebot I see that the image IS exchanged.

That's caught me before too wabe, once you've edited and re-uploaded you do have to throw a quick F5 for the new one to show.
Not sure it's a site issue though!!

Also....Always "Re-Name" the file when you do that...otherwise the DB might call the old one, and thus your Browser Cache too.

Renaming I did - it was my first thought when I was "thrown back" to the old image. But it is a little weird that the page is not refreshed automatically when I come back from the edit page.

Next time when I have this I will try to do the refresh - and see wether this is indeed the issue here. And I believe it is, yes.

I think I recall someone saying it's better to rename the beginning of the file name rather than the end...

For example...if the name of the file is  "my_cool_image.jpg"

It's better to rename it "1_my_cool_image.jpg"... rather than "my_cool_image_1.jpg"

Just something I recall reading here once that might be helpful.

I don't think renaming makes any difference, because the server names all the files conventionally. So your image will always be named "file_[uniquenumber].jpg" and the thumb will be "thumb_[uniquenumber].jpg"

Ahhh....Okay....Good thing for me, I stopped naming all of my files "uniquenumber".

"Number" or not, I'm sure that it's guaranteed to be unique, coming from your handiwork.

My artwork is unique anyway - number or not!
