Have you checked this out? It may answer your questions about CCleaner.
There's also a forum available.
I use it and it offers you to back up your registry before doing anything with it which I do each time, used a back up once and it worked fine with no problems.
I have cleaned my registry about 4 times with this so far and not had any issues, good bit of kit IMHO!
Injustice will be avenged.

I used it for a while, no problems at all, but wasn't convinced that its
cleaning made much difference. It left some things in place that
I knew to be useless.... A normal spyware / adware remover
seems to help more in terms of speed.

I just ran it and see some speed improvements. I did do a back up of my registry I can tell ya that. The programs seems okay to me and not bad for a free utility.
I've been using it too. I hate junk files left on my computer after uninstalling stuff. So between this, cureit, adware, ca antivirus, and my firewall cache cleaner, I keep my hard drive pretty clean.

adware and spyware progs dont clean out the "dead files" that ccleaner does. Simply, when you open it up, and before you scan there are two tabs. You can uncheck the one for "registry" so it doesn't touch it. I do this generally because ccleaner can (and often does) wipe out SN's of programs so you have to hunt them down again and reregister serials, its a PITA
I've had the prog. for a couple of years and love it.
I use the 'Run Cleaner' command (with every option including the registry ticked) every time I close my PC down and have never had any problems with it, in fact I have far less PC issues than I did before I used it.
The first time you use it, you'll be amazed at how much extraneous stuff gets deleted - on one of my PCs with a 350 gb h/d, I reclaimed aroung 30 gb of space!
One of the other options I really like is the clear and easy way you can choose which cookies to keep or delete. I've never had such tidy cookies and by doing this, you can ensure that passwords, seriels etc. remain in your cache so no troubles with them for me either.

I know there was a thread that referenced this program but I can't find it. Is there a help section to this program? I really do not want my registry screwed up. I understand (after reading close to 100 reviews) that this is a great little program but I am at somewhat of a loss on how to use it. I know sounds stupid but it's even more stupid not to ask questions.
Thank you.
