add another one to your list. I get that sometimes with a single sim, if you catch it just as it starts to happen, you can abort the sim and it usually fixes it. I have a feeling it's something to do with the actor/object that is selected when the sim starts. I try and make sure I have the main actor and the prop in question selected before I start the sim.
If anyone else knows why this happens please enlighten us as it's a right PITA - and crashes P7 hard when it happens

Then I'll say this again, what is the purpose of downloading or purchasing dynamic articles if they can't be used in the P7 cloth room? I am seeing more and more dynamic items but they are not use to P7 owners. Is this happening to everyone using the cloth room in P7? I know I have asked this before but the response was poor which I find annoying to a degree. Are posts only answered or read with the hopes of getting something free from them? I don't understand I guess.
it's not that they can't be used in the cloth room. 98% of my simulations run without a single problem. In the last 25 or so simulations I've run, I had one "Geometry explosion" so it's not that bad

Ah now I understand thanks for clearing that up FrankT I was wondering if this was one of those massive P7 problems. I just don't hear much about folks using the cloth room in P7.
Pretty simple dynamic cloth works with P7. Only more complicated ones tend to crash.
I stopped developing dynamic cloth because anything I have started is to complex for P7.

Dynamic cloth is mutch easier to create than conforming cloth. But I'm not sure if most of them are unusable with raytraced lights anyway. This is because the geometry for dynamic cloth should be "distorted" (with special methods) and not regulary ordered as usual.
I’ve ranted on this to the point where people are probably tuning me out. But if poser ever wants to progress in quality to a point where the rest of the 3D community thinks of us as more than just porn addicts we are going to have to get some reliable tools. Dynamic cloth and hair are resource hogs no doubt. But these capabilities have been around in poser for years now. Surely the computer of the average poser user is powerful enough to justify putting some development time into those two simulations.
It is a chicken and egg problem, venders and ef don’t want to devote time on something that only a small portion of their customers use. But new users won’t flock to the potential power of simulations in 3D until they stop hearing horror stories. Plus, it isn’t like we are talking about new functionality, we just want to use P7’s UI improvements but still use cloth as well as we could way back in the P5 days.
@ Pruiz:
I see you're using my freebie Canvas chair. I made this in Poser 7, even with multiple simulations. But I did that before SR1 came out and I didn't had the problems you described. I don't know if you're using a MAC because the chair was made on a PC, and perhaps I should have let it tested by somemone with a MAC.
I had some simular problems in the past with simulations in Poser6, (not with the chair but with dynamic cloths) One of the things that can cause those problems is too little memory ; both RAM and virtual memory. Make sure that you have at least 2gig of RAM memory and at least four times that amount of vitual memory. And you need to have enough harddiskspace for the temp files for the simulations.
Hope this helps, but if this is caused by SR1 I would have no answer.

Bopperthijs
-How can you improve things when you don't make mistakes?
bopperthijs,
I am using your canvas chair (thanks!!) on a PC and have 4gigs ram dual processor and tons of virtual memory and disk space.
In your instructios I have 2 questions - what exactly do I check collide with? just frame? and in the case of the beach chair - just front support and back support? Are you saying run a single frame simulation on frame 30 with 15 frames for draping? or simulation frames 1 through 30 and 15 frames for draping? Should collission detect be turned on for the individual props - i.e. canvas seat?
Another complication may be that I'm trying to run this also using your fellow Dutchman's (svdl) hybrid garter belt and stockings from his office set.
Thanks again for the canvas dynamic chair.
Hope to fix and show you the resulting composition soon.
In the simulationsettings (the first step) you set the number of simulation to 30 frames and the draping to 15. The endpose of the simulation is on frame 30. So in your simulation you have first 15 frames of draping and then 30 frames (0-30) frames of simulation. You don't have to set self collision for the canvas chair and also for the beach chair, unless you fold it.
collide with is only the frame part of the chair and the person who is sitting in it, and for the beach chair only the front- and back support .
You can run multiple simulations, but you can only do that one by one, first do the chair and then the clothing. I don't know if svdl's stockings have a lot of polygons, but I've noticed that if a dynamic cloth has a lot of polygons (and vertices), the simulation doesn't work, the cloth of the the dress or pants or stockings go through the cloth of the seat.
regards,
Bopperthijs.

FrankT,
"I have a feeling it's something to do with the actor/object that is selected when the sim starts. I try and make sure I have the main actor and the prop in question selected before I start the sim."
On looking into my simulation/scene I had the dynamic stockings from svdl's office set conformed to the "Garter Belt" which is a character/hybrid dybamic cloth - so this might be the cause as you remark.

This was a days work up in a hard crash. I have to start all over again. The cloth room is still really unstable in my opinion.

Bopperthijs, (and anyone else who cares to take a look)
Here is the canvas chair story resolved after a few days of trial and learning. This is a Gil Elvgren inspired pose which should be on the canvas chair - that'll be next posted on this string as I am censored (banned?) from the galleries.

When a fairly complex set of simulations is set up (3 - 5) on a single figure after some repeat simulation or draping I keep getting a radiant geometric explosion from what appears to be the teeth geometry which is not undoable or reversible so the scene becomes useless and I need to go back to last saved and start again.
I don't think this was happening prior to installing service release one for P7.
It is happening with monotonous frequency and is very annoying.
Anyone else experience similar?
