Subject: Question about Vicky4?

If I have vicky 3 do I really need to update to vicky4?

It's not mandatory but V4 does have better bendability.  I have both, and use both, and I don't regret getting her.

I had issues with V4 when I got her. And my first impression was I hated her, but after some renders I keep working with her and she'll grow on you. There are some things I still don't like,  I didn't like how they split up the morphs, combined several morphs into like one dial and it's a new learning process with V4. The expressions are neat, but the dials are touchy, to me her "smile" dial makes her look like some crazy demonic person. But V4's body is certainly a major improvement over V3. I miss the flexibility of V3's facial morphs as I seem to have better control over them than I do with V4. As I mentioned, V3 had more dials where V4 has some dials consolidated, renamed too, so first thought is it's not there. Most of us are thinking that DAZ might be coming out with another morph package for her. Then there is the discussion somewhere on this site about the transmaps missing for the eyebrows and pubic hair on V4 that make it almost impossible to do your own textures as in mix-n-match. I suppose they think that brown-red eyebrows go with all hair colors...I guess they forget that there are some real hair color women out there we're not all wearing bottle hair color. Do I regret getting V4? Nope. She's a challenge to understand how she works. If you are a PC member at DAZ you can pick up the base V4 model for 1.99 I think. But you need the ++Morph package to get all the stuff for her as the base doesn't have anything. But the base will give you a rough idea on what she's like and how she'll render. Hope that helps. :)

like has been said already, V4 comes as a bit of a shock when you first play with her but she definately grows on ya!! i really do like her, but she does take a bit of getting used to.

Aiko will always be my number 1 posable figure ('cause she animates very well) but V4 is becoming my second fave i think, recently i have been playing with miki 1+2 a lot (texturing and morphs) but i keep having a good play with V4, she is a quality figure, i was just a bit p**sed that she didn't come with the anatomically correctly named morphs that V3 had, as i was under the assumption that when i bought the pro (whatever the most expensive version was called) version that that was what i would get and more.

all that aside i give her a nine outta ten though, and would recommend her to you.

Apart from the eyebrows problem, I just don't like V4's face.  Just seems like there was a lot more I could change with V3's face.  But then there are custom morphs I use with V3 as well, as well as morphs made by people here on Renderosity (such as Leila), so until there are a lot more available for V4 as well I probably won't use her as much.

Victoria 4 has a dog face and thus far - the morphs that are available are nowhere near as attractive as the facial morphs for V3.
I also miss the muscle inj morphs for V3. How does one define musculature in V4?

FSMCDesigns ( ) posted Fri, 06 April 2007 at 11:27 PM

To each his own,V4 is much more attractive than V3 IMO and I no longer use V3 , only V4. I use heavily morphed characters normally and having all the morphs with the figure instead of the long list of them you have to search thru in the pose folder is a big plus for me.

try her out, you can always get your money back if not satiusfied.

Well, FWIW, I have to agree that the facial morphs for V4 are limited compared to V3. The overall body is smooth, poses well, and actually seems to be more veristle than V3 (at least V3 without extra add-ins like Natural Gravity Morphs and etc). But V4's face seems perpetually stuck on Round. One of my favorite custom characters I made up had a fairly angluar face, which V3 did well. I tried very, very hard to make that same face in V4, and never quite got it right. So I think I will use both for now. But I think like a lot of people, I definitely don't regret the V4 purchase either. And as for skins and all - Mask_Edit has some great skins for V4 here. (Though I do miss the pubic hair transmaps from V3). Sorry for the ramble.

I think V3 & V4 compliment each other very well. I'm afraid I really haven't used V4 very much as I just love the morphs which come with V3. My latest render uses an old V3 character of mine, I think she would be hard to reproduce with V4. I think I could do it, but it would be harder without the extra face morphs that V3 has. Mind you, there's always the morphing tool.

PerfectN ( ) posted Sat, 07 April 2007 at 9:39 AM

I agree with Vorpalbunny - the body is much smoother. However I can't get past her face - can you say homely?? And again, as VB said, it seems you can get past the melonhead.
And Id like to know how you are supposed to define musculature? - with the morphing tool??

Vorpalbunny, you can still use V3 transmap pubic hair on V4...

Off topic, perhaps, but thanks pjz99 for the tip. I will give that a try.

I think V3's head spoiled us. You can dial V4's face to look more angular but takes a lot more fiddling. V4 has the very best bending body of all the DAZ figures so far, in my opinion. I love the built-in deformers. The main drawback is with all her morphs built in, she requires a lot of RAM.

I agree with the above... she does grow on you. I'm liking V4 more and more.

I'd got tired of the chiseled square head on V3.  It's fine for creating chiseled square-headed people, but personally I've gotten a lot more fond of V4's head. IMO it's FAR easier to get a natural looking face and body from V4.  ^_^  But use whichever you prefer.
