Attached Link: LINK TO FIX AT MICROSNOT

**Hiya All,  I just fixed a problem that turned up when I installed the latest announced update from microsnot. Turns out this was, surprise, surprise, surprise, a bit buggy. It gave me the window shown in the attachment[ well I didn't save the screen grab but the text of the error message appears below in italics] and it can be solved by searching the RTHDCPL.EXE online, or I found a site that directed me to the correct microsnot page...see link.. ... here's the message text:**

***RTHDCPL. EXE - Illegal System dll relocation. The System DLL user32.dll was relocated in memory. The application will not run properly. The relocation occurred because the DLL C:WINDOWSsystem32HHCTRL.OCX occupied an address range reserved for Windows System dll's. The vendor supplying the DLL should be contacted fo a new DLL.

Typical that The vendor supplying the DLL was microsnot..sigh.. ...

Yep got that one too had contacted my e-machine tech and he gave me that same link to fix the problem. What happens is that the one loads before the other instead of the windows dll loading first it is a conflict with the two updates not a trojan persay just a conflict that the fix will fix. :O)

well the good news is, M$ recognised there was a problem and redid the patch - it's out today on the monthly fixes.

Hawkfyr ( ) posted Wed, 11 April 2007 at 10:00 AM

I've always liked SndCastie's name also. It's been her identity in the communities for as long as I can remember...In fact...I think she used that name back on the old alt.binaries.3d.bryce newsgroups if I recall correctly.

I once had a classmate named "Holly Davidson"...It was intentional....Her parents were members of a local motorcycle gang...lol

Anyway...

Thanks for the head-zup on the Trojan Bobby.

I had a strange thing happen last night...I got home around 4:AM...I came in my office to check if a client had send some web content I'd been waiting for.

All of my machines were turned on...but my monitors were shut off...I turned on the monitors my main dual monitor machine first and sat down...Right about that time...I heard one of my other machines rebooting (It's dedicated for media burning and playing...and not much else)...Anyway...I thought maybe the CPU musta overheated and shut itself down in the interest of self preservation. But usually...when that happens...it "Shuts Down" completely...this was different...it "Rebooted" (Restarted).

I gave it a strange look and continued to check my E-Mail on my main machine...After the media machine finished re-booting...I turned the monitor on...and there was a bubble in the system try that said. "Windows downloaded an update that required an automatic reboot of your machine".

Now...I've been around the block a few times, and I have Windows update set to download updates, but let me decide when and which updates to install.

This update took it upon itself to not only download and install the update...but reboot my machine...all without my interaction at all.

Like I said...I've been around the block and have been using XP/XP Pro since it came out...and never once have I seen it "Take Over" like that.

Also as mentioned...it was 4:00 AM, so I didn't have the time or energy to investigate it at the time. (I had to get some sleep because I have to squeeze in 5 appointments and feed my brothers dog and let her out every 4 hours...lol)

Why have I been so busy lately?...well..."Tis the Season" as they say.

It's like clockwork...The pattern I've seen over the years, is that during Spring Break...Thanksgiving Break..and Christmas Break...I can count on a barrage of bored college kids writing and deploying Virii, Trojans..etc.

Not singling out college kids...but it is a predictable pattern.

One of the first things they are taught is how to write a virus...Why?...because a virus is really nothing more than "Bad Code"...and they have to learn the difference between good and bad code.

Sigh..anyway..this scenario that happened to me last night could be totally unrelated...But you can bet...when I get a free moment...I'm going to investigate this rather bold "Update" deployed by Microsoft. (If that really is your name....lol)

Thanks again Bobby.

Gotta go to make my 11:30 appointment

See ya

Tom

Yep Tom you remembered I have used this name since I started 3d graphic and the old alt.binaries.3d.bryce newsgroups which are still active but I don't visit them much.

Hey Tom ....keep us posted because I still can not shut my e machine down[which I never used to do before this problem, started as a diagnostic toool because it shows the problem is still there if the e machine re starts]....even when I've disabled the internet connection. I think something got in with that "patch" job they sent and even the fix they posted did nada except remove the RTHDCPL.EXE error message from start up. The only way I can be sure my computer is of is if I un plug it. I may have to dl and install HiJackThis and go to one of their forums to find out as I'm at my current software's wit's end.. ...

However, Microsoft was forced to issue a fix for the cursor patch as some users found it conflicted with other programs installed on their PC.

Users of programs such as ElsterFormular, TUGZip, CD-Tag, and Realtek HD Audio Control Panel found that installing the patch stopped these utilities working.

which is the patch released today.. hopefully this has been helpful.

WooHoo...at 2:30 A.M., Winnipeg time, I finally got this sucker to stay shut off. I had finally turned off my Auto Updates and had gone to M$ to see what was there and got 1 XP update that seemed a good one and the .NET 2.0 update...dunno which one worked but it's fine now.. ...

Just a little update. I never did figure out what was causing the constant re start but it came back after my last post. Then I experienced Tom's thing and after that when I shut er down it wouldn't start, said it was missing services.exe so off I went to my friendly neighbourhood geek. He wanted to wipe it and re install but the Restore function backs up everything but the O/S [to C:/Backup, how convenient] so we did that and am happily working away tho I still haven't managed to get my renderosity e mail up but that's due, I think, to the password which StaceyG is resetting for me. Should be all together again later this morning....
