Subject: V4 pose pack - best value and variety for cost?

arcady ( ) posted Mon, 16 April 2007 at 11:59 AM · edited Thu, 14 November 2024 at 12:50 AM

I'm looking for opinions on pose packs for V4, free and commercial.

Not looking for pinups, sexual, dancing, couple, etc...

Looking for everyday - walking, standing, sitting, and so on.

What gives the most poses for the best cost, and does them well enough. Especially interested in packs that allow for easy tweaking or building of custom poses.

Suggestions?

@ arcady

Interesting request because so far I have also not found a really good everyday standing, walking pose collection other than the pin up, dynamic, model posing etc that you mention.
Everyday standing poses sound so simple to do but I think in reality they are some of the most difficult poses to get right and some help from very experienced artists would be great.
I have also tried partial body pose sets that are on offer at Rosity.  Perhaps the answer is to find photographs of poses that are near to what you need such as the ones found in news papers, magazines, movie clips etc. and take it from there.
But I agree with your quest.

The ones I that might mention are the Schlabber partial fantasy packs these I find useful but to a point.

Schlabber's are all for V3 though aren't they?

I did find some partials for V4 by PureEnergy and OKCRandy

Looking them over to decide if through them I could build normal looking posing. :)

@ arcady

Sorry for not being explicit about the pose collections that I mentioned being for V3.

Yes its a real problem I think that I will drop Schlabber an email and ask him if he is considering updating his pose collections especially the partial fantasy collection for V4.

If you've got Poser 7, as of SR1 I believe, it contains a DAT file that allows you to use universal poses w/ Victoria 4.  You can take your V3 poses, apply them to V3, then save them as a universal pose, load up V4, and apply the universal pose to her.

If the DAT file wasn't included, I know you can get it from the forums somewhere on philc.net.  I think it's in the old PuppetMaster forum if I remember (PuppetMaster was brokered through PhilC.net by its creator Kamilche, until it was purchased in full by e-frontier, re-sold by them on ContentParadise, and subsequently half-bundled into Poser 7 as "Universal Poses".  At least that's what I've been able to garner over the past few weeks).

Found some more partials by kawecki if anyone else is also watching this.

They're a bit more sexual in the lower body though, a lot of splits and bend overs.

DM Propose1 V4 Has some of the best V4 poses. Very easy to change them too. I haven't come across anything that even comes close to these poses.
I haven't tried the Universial Pose yet.

I have two packages, the most remarkable feature is that the poses are for the upper and lower part and are independent.
Each pack has 30 top and 30 bottom poses, it gives a theorical 900 possible combinations, of course not every of those 900 combinations produce something usable, unless you want some weird pose. Anyway it will give 700 or 800 useful poses.
If you use both packages it will give 60x60 = 3600 combinations, but of course as always happens, the pose that you want is not there (Murphy law).
Anyway I think that are useful packages that allow you to do many things and I often use them in my pictures, sometimes as it are, other time changing them a little.
I am working on a third package, but is not easy to find more 60 (30 + 30) general use poses......
Any suggestions?

Stupidity also evolves!

I use v3 poses on v4.. Sometimes wierd things happen but for the most part they do work..

If you can't eat it or play with it,

just pee on it and walk away. :-)

I second FlyByNight's DM Products recomendation.

Rumor has it that Avry Soul will have a pose pack out later this month.

I haven't had good results with the universal poses either.

It would be nice to have a script that would translate V3's buttocks/thighs into V4's thighs.  Doesn't seem like it would be too complicated.  That's easy for me to say I guess.  :)

I'm used to using V3/A3/S3/V2 poses interchangeably, and the minor tweaking that goes with it, but the new V4 no buttocks thing really screws the pooch in this regard.  It makes using other figures' poses a real PITA.
