I wouldn't buy it, but with the right advertising and exposure, anything can be sold. they may move this thread to the marketplace forum or wherever they put these.

SAMS3D ( ) posted Mon, 23 April 2007 at 5:13 PM

Can I ask what it is?  Sharen

SAMS3D ( ) posted Mon, 23 April 2007 at 5:13 PM

Also, you might want to group it together with more then one prop, say a group of them, that may help sell this, again, I am not sure what it is, a little more info is needed.  Sharen

I'm going to be honest so take this for the constructive criticism that it is.
Alone it's too simplistic for selling.   And you never sell the first model you make.  If you've just begun modeling, you need to practice, offer your practices up in the freestuff section and get some experience and feedback on your work.
Also, from the images you show, it's not realistic in that it looks way too heavy to be held in the way it's being held.  The texture indicates metal which would make the thing heavy at that size.   Never sell something that isn't usable right out of the box, this means textured and accurately scaled.  Bonus additions for such an item would be smart-propped and possible hand/body poses to match.

Again, just my honest opinion and the best of luck.

akura_ ( ) posted Mon, 23 April 2007 at 6:28 PM

OH allright thank you kindly. How would I give out such and item such as this sword.

Dave-So ( ) posted Mon, 23 April 2007 at 6:29 PM

what is that sword exactly?
I have never seen anything like that..why or where would one use that?

To give it away free you zip it up and finsd a site to host it, then submit a link to it to freestuff here.
If you want, you can buy Renderosity's file locker service and use that to host free items (that's where my freestuff is hosted).

The idea behind giving away your firsat few models, btw, is to let people see your work first, then when you've got a reputation for good quality stuff then people will be quicker to buy things that you're selling.

If I'm not mistaken, that's Cloud Strife's sword from the 'Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children' movie; the one he leaves behind at the end of the game, and that you see rusting away on the bluff overlooking Midgard City....

Nay naives the bastard sword AKA the hand and a half sword, was a European sword used in the late 14th and 15th centuries. It is a very long and straight sword and while it could be used for thusting into your enemy it was used mostly swung with two hands like a baseball bat. The blade length was not much longer than a standard long sword however, the grip was long enough that the wielder could use two hands but really there was only enough room for a hand and a half. Because of its design, this sword has no legitimate claim to being classified as either a single-handed or two-handed weapon, hence it is called the bastard sword.

True about bastard swords. The one we're talking about is Buster Sword, exact copy of sword that appeared in FFVII (the game) and FFVII: Advent Children (the movie). It's too characteristic to be sold. (True there is similar sword in DAZ freebies, but differs enough from FFVII stuff to be considered a unique creation). I'd suggest thinking about original design instead of copying someone else's ideas ;)
Good luck anyway :)

**I have never heard of the Buster sword, but I have never played the Final Fantasy game.  I remember an animated movie with space ships in it, but I do not remember the sword.

I would test the waters by issuing the sword as a freestuff.  If it downloads alot then you know that it MIGHT sell.

You place textures on your models with UV Mapper.  You create a texture template in UV Mapper Pro or Classic and then you take the template into a paint program and paint your texture over it like you were doing a paint by number painting.  If  you download UV Mapper Classic or buy UV Mapper Pro ( the best route),  then I can help you use it in the UV Mapper Forum to make texture maps for your models.**

The "buster sword" also appears in the "shining Force" games on Sega Genesis.

Actually, 'Advent Children' is a nice little CG show off fest for the crew that did the FF7 game. It isn't High Drama (more like an anime in CG.....but dayum Tifa Lockhart is hot! Not to mention bad....). Just for study purposes I'd recommend it.....what you don't understand, a quick stop at Wikipedia will answer all...
