Subject: So... y'all actually test stuff now?

According to StaceyG, you do.

This I find interesting becase last I checked (admittedly a couple of years back - in 2005), you didn't - at least not beyond making sure the unzip puts all the files where they need to go, and that the MP license was packed into the thing.

That said, and in the interests of knowing a bit more, I'd like to be brought up to speed, if you would indulge me:

  1. when did the R'osity MP start testing for any kind of QA in a product? Month/Year will suffice.

  2. what is being tested for? Is there any sort of QA sheet or a checklist we can refer to? I suspect that this would hardly constitute a "trade secret", and I'm rather curious.

  3. about what percentage of your intake are rejects, and does a merchant get a chance to correct deficiencies found?

Thx in advance,
/P

Hi P,

I started out as a MarketPlace tester over 6 years ago, and we always have tested for product functionality.  Never have I known it to be only making sure the zips unzipped properly and the license was included.  We've always tested each product.

Anytime a product fails testing for whatever reason, vendors have always been given the chance to correct the errors and resubmit.

Hope that helps.

Okay... but what does "functionality" mean? That's the bit I'm wanting to see.

/P

Functionality refers to the product working as described in the product description.  Making sure it "functions" in the applications created for.  For example, if 50 MAT pose files are included with a character or clothing texture package, then it's tested to be sure that they all work.  Character packages are inspected for seams, fabric tiles that are advertised as being seamless are checked to be sure that they are in fact seamless.

May we see the checklist, please?

Been thinking about submitting, and if I know what you're looking for, then I can hand it to my testers for QA that's valuable towards the end result.

I'm going to get off my soapbox now, and let you get back to your day

Cool - now we're getting somewhere. One more question - do y'all also test for such things as seam alignment, mesh deformation/breakage, things like that? /P

By all means wait for admin or staff reply but in the meantime, speaking as a vendor here (I don't know firsthand what the testing staff do), afaik they do look over texture seams and mesh deformation (general posing) but they only spend a few hours (1 to 4 hrs) on each item, unless it's a big and complicated pack once in a while they have to go over that.  However, vendors are required* to have had our items beta tested (preferably by someone other than the developer) for the "real" deep testing.  Store testers aren't expected to go as deep, and if buyers find any problems the vendor performs any support/fixes directly or the buyer is entitled to return the product for a refund.
*Not sure where this is documented exactly.

Hi P,

April has answered correctly (she always does), we do test each product for that sort of stuff :)

Well, I find mistakes all the time in my purchases so they are not testing very well. Mistakes in codes, and in the readmes. Very frustrating. I complained about a product that was looking for geometries on the E: drive instead of just runtime and it still has not been fixed by the merchant.
