" This was probably the most popular Genre challenge so far."

Everyone has a little macro photographer inside of them waiting to get out ;)

I was surprised to see who the owner of the photo was on voting before the vote was registered. Surly it should be anon until it is registered, then you could say whos it was.

To ask do you wish to vote for this photo by "name" defeats the purpose of it all.

@Rich - oh yes, I just don't have the lens for it!!!

I'm off to go take a look-see and cast my vote......... xx

ok - that was difficult... i managed to shortlist 6, and then get very arbitrary quick reaction judgements on them. the last two i really couldnt separate... amazing shots people!

May i make a suggestion of a voting scale used to vote on each image because i would have given the last two of my list top marks...maybe someone else might have thought otherwise and thus the differennce is more "fair" in working out than me basically flipping a coin over which has my vote? i dont know...

and maybe not to have the popup-box with the confirmation of the vote saying the name of the entrant, maybe the box afterwards?

Yes, I noticed that this time the names were available - I thought these contests were supposed to be anonymous??

I like you Rich, suffered the same problem - had it shortlisted down to about half a dozen, then weedled it down by half - then just flipped a three-sided coin LOL!!!

Good luck to all of you who entered - some REALLY great macros in there!! xx

Hi Bruce,
I'm NOT going to vote and this will also be my last entry in the monthly Genre challenge...
The challenge is no longer anonymous... :-(

(as it was not really before but then only a few people knew how to see the name of the artist... but now the name is appearing when you click on the thumb to vote... And if you say "No" you can, by doing so, review the 73 entries...
So, I already know the name of the winners... the usual members of the Rendo mafia...

Very bad news... just when I thought a wind of renewal and a new spirit was coming to RR... :~)

regards
michel

It is supposed to be anonymous, there must be a glitch somewhere. Looking into it... As a fan of the genre, I have a pretty high standard. It was still very hard for me to narrow my choices too, so many good entries.

I picked the one that I honestly found the best entry; but when I saw the name of the photographer appearing in the voting window, I was really tempted to try some other ones ;o)) But then I thought: no; that's not the spirit of the game, so I just clicked 'Vote' and that was it... Btw, I forgot to submit an entry (but then again, I don't have a macro lens.. o;)) I have to agree Kort, a lot of good macro shots..!!

Just to be clear...

I sent IM's to everyone who entered this month to try to get more folks to vote..
It seems every month we get 30 or more entries, and maybe 10 votes..which is rather pityful.

I was not aware that a change had been made to the system. No one bothered to tell us they had changed this.

It's been reported to the programmers. I haven't heard back from them yet..

I apologise for this unfortunate turn in the events, but I can assure you that no one from our team was aware of this until I opened the voting process..

There is another way we could conduct the voting..I used to do this when I was the Terragen moderator..

We can vote publicly in the forum..

You would vote for your top three choices by Number..

Such as...

  1. #17
  2. #25
  3. #2

Each vote would have a point value attached to it..

a first place vote is worth 5
second 3
third one

it would create some extra work for me...But..if this would be considered more fair by the general membership..I'm Ok with that..

There are a couple of interesting things I've found with this method..
First, it almost eliminates there being a tie..
Second, I've seen an entry win, because it got more second place votes!!
Third, it does create some accountability..you have to make your choices in public.
Some people maight not be comfortable with this..Once you get used to it..it's no big deal..

To be perfectly honest, I prefer the voting on the contest page because it is much easier for me to manage.. the forum voting method can be time consuming  If you get 20 members voting..it takes some time to add things up.

So..think about it and if there is really an interest in changing things, we can start a thread to consider this..

maybe the programmers will just fix the damned thing....

I personally like that idea Bruce.  It makes it easier for us the voters when there are so many good ones to chose from to narrow it down to three places and as you say, this would make it far more interesting to see an outright winner with less ties.

However, I do appreciate that it makes more work for you - I would happily volunteer to count the votes for you except for two critical flaws in that idea, firstly, I wouldn't be able to enter (and I have fun trying to meet the challenge) and secondly, I'm not staff and therefore someone is bound to complain about that!!

I will leave the decision as to the way forward, up to others who may have a stronger opinion than I do but I will say that I agree, at the very least the programmers need to sort out the anonymity issue before the next voting session.

Keep smiling Bruce - we appreciate your hard work and dedication. xx

You could still enter Chrissy...I try to enter every challenge..I know Kort and Ilona usually do as well.. It's not like there is a prize involved..It more about learning and trying new things.

One other point if I may..

I used to be able to see who voted for who...which was important because I don't feel folks should be voting for their own image..

With the forum voting..it would be obvious to me, because I see who entered the contest..

Hi all
There were so many great macros in this contest and it was a hard choice as to who to pick for a vote.  I just picked the one i liked best. When i saw whose name was on it, it really didnt matter as i had already made my mind up "before clicking on the vote button" !!  So im not fussed either way!! Hope it can be sorted to keep everyone happy!! Cheers Louise

GiMi53: your quote: " So, I already know the name of the winners... the usual members of the Rendo mafia..."

I never thought that you see it like that way.....and to be honest, I don't like such kind of language....for some reason there went something wrong....It is supposed to be anonymous.....so don't judge before you know whats wrong....the team didn't know, it is the first time so far I know that this is happened....

So please think before you left such words about the "Rendo mafia"
we try to do our best to keep this a nice place.....
