Well, I realize this still needs alot of work, but it's getting late and I was wondering if I was on the right track with the lighting and how the road is shapeing up. Unfortunatly, I haven't had much time to work on it lately. Thanks, Rich

Absolutely on the right track...er, road. This is really looking great! Needs a bit more grass in the left front corner, and some smoother transition between the grass-at-road-edge and the open field beyond the trees. But what you're doing is excellent, and it's also impressive to watch someone giving an image time to develop. Keep it up! :)

Yeah, this is looking great... Very realistic... Honestly speaking, I like it just as it is...

I like the highlights on the trees and plants and the road looks very authentic. Sort of like the Roman Appian Way...

I like that a lot. The track is excellent and all I can reccomend is for you to keep going in the same direction with it. If you can get the transition between the road edge and fields smoother (as Varian has mentioned) then that would be great, but I am really looking forward to the final version :) Great Work. Cheers

heyas yes, this is shaping up nicely. the added grass makes the ruts look more real, even though they are still technically flat. if making the field match the grass is a bit too hard, try hiding the edge, like with some taller weeds and go ahead and make the edge border even more enhanced ;) the only thing i kinda miss now... well, the foreground road looks a bit less like the background roads :/ maybe if you can make the background grass a bit darker, like the foreground, it'll look better.

Thanks again everyone. I'll keep plugging away at it. BTW- Is it legal/ethical to use this for an official challenge entry since I've gotten so much help on it? And where are the challenge entrys supposed to be uploaded to? Thanks, Rich

Varian ( ) posted Wed, 16 May 2001 at 11:12 PM

As I understand it, it's not only legal, it's very ethical. Having the monthly challenges isn't meant to be a set of rigorous rules, but an opportunity to learn from and share with others as you explore some new technique or approach. The forum is the perfect place to upload WIP for feedback and helps. The perfect place for finals is the Vue d'Esprit gallery here. All my opinion...some people may prefer it just reversed. :🤷: Either place is available. I was too busy during the road/path challenge to attempt one, but your perseverance, Rich, is quite inspiring, as is the results of your efforts. So I just might need to do a path soon. :)
