Subject: Installing V4.1 into dummy runtime for P6...how to and more...

Lyne ( ) posted Mon, 30 April 2007 at 10:33 PM · edited Tue, 04 February 2025 at 2:52 PM

I have started to build an instruction/explanation sheet for myself from my posts and replies at DAZ on HOW to install and understand V4.1... have learned a lot, and she is NOT yet IN my poser! Just in case this or parts of this might help others....

for Poser the only updated files are for the V4 base and the Morphs++ none of the other files need to be reinstalled.  (still trying to understand if I am to execute the "morphforms_2.exe" file)

To install to a dummy runtime, use the DAZ Studio option in the installer and you will be allowed to BROWSE to install anywhere you want.

Once you install you can move your files anywhere you want. the one exception is for Poser versions before Poser 7 which will have very poor load times if the !DAZ folder which is just
inside the Libraries folder is not in the base runtime. any of the standard library folders can go anywhere you wish.

I also think I have it right, that ONCE I install V4.1, I will not have to have some sort of installer icon or run something ever again for and products FOR this version of V4.1? I won't try to understand why all this was done...just be happy to get her settled in!

REPLY:

um ok not quite, when you get new ExP packages down the road you will need to run the utility in the !DAZ folder again.  (BUT in one post it said the DAZ installer would run that thingy automatically for me- guess you only have to do it manually if the product is not from DAZ ... OR MAYBE when using a dummy runtime?).

So say in the future you buy a package using ExP. unpack it into a dummy runtime it will come with another !DAZ folder.

Drop that into your P6 libraries folder and it will save the proper files into the existing !DAZ folder.

You then go into that !DAZ folder and double click on the DzCreateExPFiles-V4.bat file(obviously for the mac it isnt a .bat file but you will see a file with basically the same name), this will create the proper files for the new package. you will also see a DzCreateExPFiles-V4V3.bat file double click on that one as well that one creates the proper files to allow you to use the head morphs in the V4 to V3 figure if you use it.

THE PATH THE DAZ ICONS HAVE FROM MY DESKTOP:
"C:Documents and SettingsyyMy DocumentsPoserTempDAZinstallPoser
6RuntimeLibraries!DAZDzCreateExPFiles-V4.bat"

"C:Documents and SettingsyyMy DocumentsPoserTempDAZinstallPoser
6RuntimeLibraries!DAZDzCreateExPFiles-V4V3.bat"

SO I CAN SEE WHICH OF THE MANY FILES IN THE MAIN !DAZ FOLDER NEED TO BE DOUBLE CLICKED ON! I did delete them off my desktop.

I CONTINUE:
So to install any FUTURE morph ExP sets you have to double click on the .bat files for each of  these items located inside the !DAZ folder.  When clicked you will see a black window with white text running down as it creates some sort of files. This looks like the old "dos" language! I hope it works when into the future when we are all forced to use Vista, etc.!

MORPHFORMS
http://forum.daz3d.com/viewtopic.php?p=843916#843916

"morphforms" - these dials ARE LIKE EASY POSE things - do NOT want to touch those dials at all!! I can see where "easy pose" does conflict with normal poses... I encounter this all the time with the mil cat's tail! :)  I use the normal poses and re-pose soooo often to figure out what I want my figure to do in any scene, I won't use morphforms...

hmmm never say never? I might use ONLY morphforms and come up with some really unusual poses then, right???  ;)

GOSH THIS HAS BEEN/IS HARD TO DEAL WITH!! Especially with dyslexia! But seems to be something we "have" to do as vendors will start supporting 4.1.... sigh.

Oh you got to be kidding! I just got this answer:

Oh Lyne I just noticed that you have .command files in your !DAZ folder, those I believe are Mac files? if you are working on a PC you dont need those.

PICTURE REFERRED TO IS POSTED IN THIS THREAD:
http://forum.daz3d.com/viewtopic.php?p=843932#843932
My reply:
But your (DAZ's!) exe did that!! I am on a PC, I downloaded the files for PC for V4.1 and THOSE FILES APPEARED by themselves! Is that another glitch to be fixed?

ARGH! I GUESS IT ISN'T OVER TILL IT'S OVER.... THIS INSTALLING V4.1!??

Frankly, Lyne, I just installed her into my V4 Runtime and then copied the !DAZ folder over to my P7 Runtime.  By that time all the necessary files had been created and she works like a charm.

I don't think you need to go through all the drama since DAZ has decided that this is how things are going to be in the future (something I'm not really happy about, either).

If you load V4.1, and save the figure back into the Figures library, the CR2 file that is created seems to be completely portable to different runtimes, just get the materials and .OBJ files required as well.  The big problem with using a different runtime seems to be that the V4.1 CR2 has a bunch of sub-files loaded by readScript commands - if you save a copy back into the Figures library, this is converted to the standard format of a single file.  Also the newly-saved CR2 won't be touched by the updater any more, if you're worried about that.

I can't find out how to delete this thread... I only thought to share my journey as others at DAZ were asking the same questions in many threads and wanted a final "how to" also...

Perhaps there are more P7 users here. I love V4, and I am alternatly frustrated and persistant in getting 4.1 ready to install in my P6.3....and to LEARN about the 4.1 version... Will D over at DAZ has been very nice... and patient....a nice quality in a forum person.

I don't use multiple runtimes.

OH well perhaps my post information will be of some help to someone....

Thanks for posting this. I had already installed V4, but now I am trying to finally clean up my runtime, and I was trying to park V4.1 in a different runtime, and was having a problem. Now I know why.

I have yet seen many people post if they are having a problem with V 4.01 when using poser and installing to another runtime instead of the Default Poser 7 runtime.
I think most people are uisng Daz/Studio and it was designed to have no problem with that program.
If the !DAZ folder is left in the external runtime, will V 4.01 load as someone said in a thread at Daz Commons.   Or does the !DAZ folder have to be put in the Poser 7 Runtime before it will work.
Still lot confusen I think between Daz/Studio users and Poser users.

iloco, she'll load but it's like the days of P5 when V3 took forever to load unless the !DAZ folder wasn't in the native P6 Runtime Pose folder.  My workaround was to just copy that folder over to P7 and she loads fine.  I did this after all the "new" ExP files were created by the installer and I don't have any problems with her.  I didn't delete the !DAZ folder from my external runtime, though, I just copied it over.

Thanks and is one the reason I will not be buying V 4.01.   My other runtimes dont need all this to work so why should a new V 4.1 need it.
I can see it was designed for Daz/Studio more so than for Poser users.

Maybe Daz will realize when Posr users quit buying their models that there are as many if not more Poser users than Daz/Studio. :(

Ditto with what turtle said. :)

If you have V4 you don't need to buy her, she's a free update.  Just reset your V4 download.  You only need the V4 base and the Morphs++ since they're the only ones affected.

As for me, I was waiting for a new M4 but I so love Apollo now that a new M4 just isn't a big deal for me.
