Subject: Victoria 4.1 Poser to Vue problem...?

featherwitch ( ) posted Fri, 04 May 2007 at 8:01 PM · edited Mon, 23 December 2024 at 9:12 AM

Hi all!
I posted on Daz but haven't received a reply, so I'll try here and see if anyone else is having this issue...
After I make a scene in Poser 6 with the original V4, I have no problem importing the file into Vue6 PS- she stays in the pose I originally put her in in P6.
Now, when I use the updated V4.1 in Poser, when I import the file to Vue, she and any props go back to their original default pose!
I don't use the "binary morph target" option in Poser, so I don't know why this might be happening...?
I know this is more of a Daz issue, and I'm sure it has to do with her new "rigging" for morphs, but I didn't know if it's something anyone else here has had a problem with and can explain?
Thanks!  :)

I read ib DAZ forums about problems with Victoria 4.1 and Carrara (Transposer) and wondered wether this will be similar to us here. And obviously it is.

Here is an excerpt from the DAZ V4.1 sticky thread in "Common".

*Will Victoria 4.1 work in Carrara?
Not via direct import of the CR2. Victoria 4.1 uses a new morph loading system which Carrara is currently not able to utilize. If you have Poser you can load Victoria, then save back to the library and the resultant figure will load and work in Carrara. DAZ have said that Carrara 6 will support Victoria 4.1.
*Good that I have not installed the update yet, I will simply wait for a solution.

Sorry to hear about your problems, my latest image used V4.1 exported from Poser6 to Vue6Inf and I had no problems with it, except the image is crap and not some of my best work!! [LOL].

I didn't even know there was an update for V4. How did you guys know it? Going to daz3d.com  or by e-mail from them?

Well, I read it in another forum. But you should check first Bruno what you need to update. Go to the thread I mentioned, it is a good source of information for this issue.

There's quite a bit of controversy about it and a large dose of misunderstandings due to DAZ not being very clear about a few things.  The biggest objection to it seems to be about the fact it puts a different type of installer on your computer and leaves short cuts on the desk top which a few don't like!! As Wabe says there are numerous explanations around including one at DAZ at the link!

Bruno- I've found Daz doesn't seem to like to notify about alot of things! Apparently a picture that I uploaded to their gallery was actually used- and I got a $25 voucher. I never received any notice of this and only found out when they used the pic on their V4 promo page. I went to my account and there was the voucher- which had already expired! It would have been nice to be notified so that I could have used it! We all know their stuff ain't cheap! So I've learned that one has to visit the site on a daily basis in order to be caught up on stuff....
Personally, I like the new morphs they've added and haven't had the problems that some of the people in the Daz thread have had (but I don't use external runtimes either...). I was just disappointed that I couldn't get her into Vue.
Thanks for the info everyone! I'll keep playing around and see if I can't get something to work!  :)
Have a great weekend!

UPDATE:
Ok, I downloaded the V4.1 files again and reinstalled all the necessary files, then started from scratch. Guess what? It worked!!!! I'm thinking that the problem might have been caused by a V4 morph that I was using (pulling it apart and looking at the way it was created, it seems that it was done a little differently than a standard morph).
So, again, thanks for your time and help!  :)

Thanks all, I read the thread ( well, parts of it, it's a 25 pages thread!), and posted and got some nice chaps responding.
Actually, I just needed to redownload the base character and the morphs.
I'll make a test later or tomorrow.

I'm not sure what the benefits are of the new Victoria 4.1.  It now contains an external morph injection system similar to what was used in V3.  I seriiously doubt that anyone other than DAZ will use this new facility.  The original V4 still has 50 or so extra morph channels built in that people can use.  Also, I wished they would have fixed her armpit joints in 4.1.  Personally, I see no need to use 4.1 -- it appears that it's more hassle versus benefit.

I installed V4.1 yesterday and played with her ( well, virtually speaking of course) and well,  I'm not a Poser  expert, but just as Dave, I don't see anything new, except that morphs load automatically with the figure. I don't understand why they updated a figure without updating the problems within the figure ( armpits, for example), and without telling their customers either. I learned this here, I never go to DAZ forums ( the only forum I need there is Hex2, and it's almost as dead as the program developpement).

I have another problem with V4.1: I can use her in Poser 7 normally, but when I import her into Vue6I she is missing. All other props and figures (like hair and clothing) appear normally from the imported pz3, but the V4.1 body is missing! I can use Victoria 4.0 without problems. I tried redownloading the files, I tried saving the figure to the Poser 7 library and reloading it and I switched the external binary morph targets on and off - no effect. Has anybody encountered a similar problem (and maybe found a work-around)?

dburdick ( ) posted Fri, 11 May 2007 at 6:23 AM

BlueIce2, I wonder if Victoria 4.1 uses compressed obj files (e.g. obz).  Vue has had trouble in the past loading these files.  The other thing to check is to look inside the V4.1 CR2 and see where object file resides.  You can find this path at the very top of the file.  I haven't downloaded 4.1 yet and I doubt if I will given that there is little to no benefit of this update over the previous version.

BlueIce2 ( ) posted Fri, 11 May 2007 at 12:32 PM

Thanks for your help! Your reminder to check the object path brought me to the solution: I still had declared the Poser6 directory in the import option and since I had to install V4.1 in the Poser7 native directory (and not in an external runtime like V4.0) Vue didn't find it.
The problem is that you need Version 4.1 if you want to use the muscle morphs (and I guess the creature morphs and probably all morphs and additions that DAZ is going to publish over the next years!).
Thanks again!
