Subject: Thumbnails for Freebies?

FranOnTheEdge ( ) posted Sat, 14 April 2007 at 1:23 PM · edited Thu, 13 February 2025 at 4:25 PM

Does anyone know how to get  the URL for an image that you uploaded to ShareCG?  This is for use on the R'osity Freebies, so still On Topic.

R'osity wants a URL for the thumb, but there was no place to upload a thumb on ShareCG, so I'm stumped - can anyone help?  (I did look at their FAQ, but there's nothing there about uploading procedures at all, never mind anything specifically about the thumbnail.)

I'm not sure how to do this myself, but me thinks AS could explain how he does it.

So I'm hoping.

Yeah, I've got a few models I'd like to upload there myself, including my Victorian houses.

And I've got a load more textures, already seemlessly tiled and hot to go, but there's no point if I can't even get the first one right.

I........am not sure if you can link a thumbnail from sharecg over to here. My thumbnails (that show up here at Renderosity) actually reside here at Renderosity.

Oh.....So that's how he does it!

Hmmmm.....I'm a little out of touch what a normal member gets when registering here, but do you get any Renderosity file locker space?

If not I have some I am not using, and I could just stick them in there for ya.

Well, I can't claim to be a "normal" member, but I don't currently have a R'osity file locker. It would be splendiferous if you could spare some room for a few thumbnails, and much appreciated.

FranOnTheEdge ( ) posted Wed, 18 April 2007 at 9:46 AM

No, we don't get locker space.  Unless you pay for it.  But the good news is that you can find the ShareCG thumbnail's URL address simply by right clicking on the thumbnail on the shareCG site and selecting "properties"... Duh... simple when you think about it, but I just didn't think... obviously.

That way you don't have to waste any of your 4 views loading a thumb, handy if you want to upload a model and show it off well.

Even better ShareCG say they are going to notify uploaders of the thumbnail's URL address same as they currently do for the file's URL address - this should be available in about a week as I understand it.

I do hope ShareCG keeps going, they sound like a good place so far.

Sorry for my absence here for the past jeez....week?
Things had came up....seemingly all at once, as they always do.

Uh, good to see ShareCG will be helping out (do they know they will be helping out, lol?) But, if anyone needs something small ever hosted, I still have some filelocker space and I can stick some small things in there if you need. Just e-mail me.

I think you'd have to define the word 'normal'.

By default everyone who signs up gets the "normal" stamp. It's up to the individual to shake that off, lol. (or, rip it off with clumps of hair and half yer skin attached)

Shake it off?  Don't you mean pay Renderosity to change it?

Maybe if I earn enough at sharecg... or if I start selling stuff here at Rendo too.

I signed up for the absolutely free space on yahoo geocities. I then ignored the constant ads to go pro for $4.99 a month Or get a domain for a year for $9.99. I created a small webpage that has lots of yahoo pop up and floating banner ads attached to it as my homepage. I made a small directory called images on this space. I store thumbnails and pictures I post to even smaller sites that have no image storage capabilities. I find this site really useful for storing small images for things like freebies. I tried storing small freebies on geopages but the 5Mb/hour bandwidth prevents anything really spectacular.

You can get a small file locker free at renderosity if you start to sell in the marketplace. They give it to you so you can upload items to test but you can also store images.

Death_at_Midnight ( ) posted Sun, 06 May 2007 at 4:30 PM

Is it possible to upload a thumbnail here, in the forum, then link to it?

AgentSmith ( ) posted Sat, 12 May 2007 at 12:26 AM

You can, but no need anymore

**Renderosity now hosts your thumbnails for your freestuff items!
**Just browse to your thumbnail on your harddrive, when filling out your Freestuff upload page.

Yeah, saw that - means I gotta remember to resize the image for that, but hey better having it here on Rosity, I think.
