Subject: V4 pz3s won't open

LanceB ( ) posted Sun, 13 May 2007 at 9:18 PM · edited Tue, 19 November 2024 at 11:57 PM

I can't get my v4 pz3s to open. I have Poser 6 on an external hard drive and my pz3s on another external drive. I have not had this problem with V3 or any other character using the same setup. Does this have something to do with the V4.1 upgrade which I have not gotten yet? Does anyone else have this problem?

This has come up before ... if you're using the external binary morph files this seems to corrupt any file with V4 (and V4.1).  It was, supposedly, corrected with the SR1 but a lot of people are still having problems with it.

It was corrected in P7 SR1, but I don't believe any patch for P6 was ever released that addressed this.

David what exactly happens when you try to load V4.1, what circumstances, any detail you can offer?  Have you run the "Update V4.1" as part of the installation, or the icon on your desktop that the installer creates?

External binary morph files? I suppose I should know what that is but alas I do not . I guess this is time for me to expand my education. Can you help with a simple explanation? It's amazing that I can spend so much time and money on Vicky and still be clueless. Hmmmmm, sounds like real life.

Edit -> Preferences and somewhere in there, there is a checkbox for "Use external binary morph targets".  I think under Misc.  You can also look in the directory you're saving your scene file to, and see if there is a file with the same name as the scene, and the extension .PMD (this is the binary Poser Morph Data file).

If this is your situation, i.e. you find .PMD files, you can try renaming the .PMD file to something different, and then see if Poser can open the scene file.  This will at least let you recover lighting, camera, textures, general pose and the like, but chances are very high that the PMD file cannot be recovered.

If this is NOT your situation, i.e. you cannot find any .PMD files, and Use Binary Morph Targets is disabled, then you may need to contact DAZ support.

So pjz 99, is buying Poser 7 the answer to getting V4 pz3s to work? I am a little hesitant to buy it because of some of the bugs that people have complained about.

Addendum, I just saw your last post, I'll try that tomorrow.

Right on, hopefully you can get this to work without needing to buy Poser 7 - although P7 does have useful advantages that you may benefit from, multi-threaded rendering and vastly improved memory management.  There are some problems with lighting that I don't understand very well that BagginsBill has mentioned, I am still investigating that.  I did get V4 to work under Poser 6 before I upgraded though.
