i have extended but i dont know how to import movies..i know they have to be .mov format...i tried to import a .mov but it wont let me

You do File, Import, Video Frames to Layers.ย  Opens up the video file as a layered PSD.

And it doesn't have to be .mov, that is just one format it allows.ย  It can be pretty much any movie format.

when I tried it (uncompressed QT.mov), it imported each frame into its own layer. the first frame was the bottom layer; last frame was top layer.

dang! sorry to hear it. I've got whatever QT is the latest (OS X). one would venture the conclusion that APS is still a mac-centric app, after all these years. anyway, once ya get it to work, then it appears as in the attached image. it has an animation window, and when one clicks the "play" arrow, it runs thru the cels in the anim-window, and plays in the main window and navig-window.

yea i get now how u import wat i dont get is my quicktime problem..and can u use other formats than .mov

Miss Nancy ( ) posted Fri, 18 May 2007 at 12:37 PM ยท edited Fri, 18 May 2007 at 12:39 PM

I only edit uncompressed QT.mov files, as it's not a good idea to edit a compressed file IMVHO, due to image loss, artifacts and the possiblility that the codec creates reference frames from which succeeding frames are derived. however, cs3 allowed me to import a vob file, which is mpeg2 (compressed video), so I reckon it may allow the import of other codecs. but I dunno if QT is worth the trouble on an XP machine, or even if it will work at all on a vista machine. I've heard that QT causes all kinds of conflicts with 3D software under XP. perhaps adobe will need to get their butts in gear and take care of that.

so i can import other formats of video..whenever i go to import video frames or watever it always asks me for quicktime..but i hear all over that u can import mpeg and avi..i dont know how

Miss Nancy ( ) posted Fri, 18 May 2007 at 3:19 PM

I just checked - it also allows me to import divx avi files. YMMV.

TheBob ( ) posted Fri, 18 May 2007 at 3:30 PM

how do u import it..cuase i got to ...file/import/video frames to layers..and it always says i need quicktime..it pops up and requires it..nothing else pops up

Miss Nancy ( ) posted Fri, 18 May 2007 at 5:55 PM

o.k. then ya gotta install QT. apparently they aren't gonna let ya do anything without QT.

TheBob ( ) posted Fri, 18 May 2007 at 8:21 PM

ok i want to make sure something before i reformat.....i want to import a movie to frames..and make kind of like a stop motion animation thing to one of my movies with my friends..i want to edit each frame and put a vilociraptor in my movie..that means i have to edit 10 frames at a tme then change then move it a little more in the frame then do it 10 more time and so on..i used to have to edit each frame seperatly in vegas video..but i am wondering if i can only edit one frame and then copy that and paste it 10 times on the video..that would save time

Miss Nancy ( ) posted Sat, 19 May 2007 at 2:35 PM

for that I would use any video editor. the one that comes with QT costs $30. put the velociraptor track in a track or layer above the imported movie in yer video editor. IMVHO using cs3e ($999) as a video editor is not a good idea. the advantage to using a video editor is that ya just add a new track, and it does all the frames at once. AFAIK cs3e would require ya to edit each frame, one at a time. maybe there's a video editor forum here.

TheBob ( ) posted Sat, 19 May 2007 at 4:18 PM

i guess it is hopeless..with the quicktime thing..i am downloading the trial to photoshop after effects cs3 and i will see if that helps..thank you for ur time..and if u have any more suggetions plese tell me
