hi all i've made my firt cloth in Hexagon 2.1 and save it as an .obj file. When importing in poser 7 iv'e a transparent zone in the preview. When I render this zone seems ok but all the other parts look awful (black squares and zone). The same file is correctly rendered in bryce or carrara Basic. Does anybody help me ? Thanks

I've had the same kind of problem from time to time using P5. What I had to do to fix it was go back and redo and remap the entire .obj.

So I guess I am not much help. But I'm glad you brought this up, maybe someone else will have a better fix than starting over from scratch.

Looks like you're using 2-sided polygons.  Poser hates those.

See if Hexagon will re-save the model with plain one-sided polygons.

another possibility (from Wings, but an object file is an object file is...;) 3-sided polygons; Poser doesn't like those either, and may 'shade' them somewhat. If you have an option to turn them into 4-sided polys, try that (Wings is called tesselate, but not sure if Hexagon does it that way)

@Pakled: Just to be clear, I'm talking about two-faced polygons, not shapes with two sides.   Some modeling apps, and some rendering apps, can deal with a facet that's defined so it faces both ways.  Poser doesn't like them.

In this pic, the green thing is built the usual way, with one face per facet.  You
can see that Poser's preview shows only the forward-facing facets, while the
render shows all cleanly.

I used UVmapper to make the red thing two-faced (Tools:Facets:Two-sided).
It looks good in the preview but shows a typical weirdness in render.

I always wondered if it was the thickness. To thin of 2 sided gives those weird renders and thicker ones don't. will have to go and try. I usually use one sided for dynamic use.

It could also be that your faces in the 'transparent zone' are pointing inwards (direction of normals, they are flipped the opposite way), and the rest of the faces are pointing outwards. In previews poser only sees one side of faces - the outside part. When rendering, the front and back end up being rendered.
As for squares in the render, I suspect maybe the are couple different material zones or groups assigned to the two areas, and one got smoothed and the other one didn't.
Or there may be something going on with the material.

Anything more, I'd have to look at the hex file and see if I can see any other glitches.

It could be backfacing.

There is one thing I forgot that hex does. Did you check in the material room of poser and see if the UV map is connected to the material node? It is check patterned and poser includes this when importing .OBJ from Hex. Also I found that my guess to thickness can do this too. I remembered a popular hair,  few years ago, used to do this all the time. In P5 and up.

One last thing. In the material room. On rthe poser surface node. Look all the way down and check the " Normals Forward " box and see if that fixes it. Do it to all the materials as a test.

didn't mean to cause concern..;) It's possible for Poser to dislike more than one thing..;) I've noticed that on some models I've made that have a single side, that triangular faces act up on occasion.

Thanks all. Beryld and ocklam were right. 2 sided polygons! It's the thickness tool thats does these polygons. Sadly , darth_poserus was right too : i must redone my object whithout the thicknes and all is fine !
