Subject: Spring Haiku Challenge

Drekinn ( ) posted Sun, 04 March 2007 at 4:54 AM · edited Sun, 01 December 2024 at 9:59 PM

As the thawing warmth of Springtime changes the landscape so too changes the seasonal haiku challenge.
If you're new to the haiku challenge the idea is to fashion together a 5-7-5 syllable haiku using the last word of the previous haiku as the first word of the next.

Spring is in the air:
New-born saplings stir to life;
Flowers soon to bear.

--

It's hard to believe that it's Spring once again - the very season from which the haiku challenge first blossomed. 😄

You must live in the South! It's 22 degrees here, and I'm freezing my *** off. :) But I'll bite.

Bear up, my children.
Warmth of spring will be here soon.
Birds will sing again.

These might be easier when the temperature is actually spring-like. ;)

Again winter moans;
The chill in the air beckons.
Next week, spring arrives!

Arrives! The last winter blizzard!
Snow, sleet, freezing rain, ice winds.
One last storm, then spring!

Dinhi ( ) posted Sun, 04 March 2007 at 1:22 PM

Spring has breezes warm;
Spring cloaks the earth like a hug,
Bringing love and  joy!

Joy of Spring, new births
maybe a new friend has come.
Born with the New Year.

Wasn't sure if the adoption had happened, but spring brings many births, and many new animal friends waiting to be made.

Year of the lion;
out like a lamb, spring cometh.
Ready for the rain!

I unfortunately was unable to receive the FCR Sam, I am though, on the waiting list for another rescue, and will keep looking for my new poopydoo!  Thank you for thinking of me.  [=

Rain upon my face;
Dancing joyful through the trees;
Sunshower's embrace.

jstro: I live further south than you may realise - in Australia; hence the seasons are reversed, making each and every seasonal haiku attempt indeed a 'challenge'.

Change of season nears.
Spring here, autumn there.

For Drekinn, who is springing into fall. Fortunately, autumn is  a nice season too. At least in Missouri. ;-)

Up through the earth's crust,
Squirming slowly, seeking light:
Fertile seedlings thrust.

Dinhi: I certainly haven't lost interest, I've just not had the spare time lately to compose and post. You can be reassured that I will always attempt the current challenge, it just comes down to when. Sorry to curb your enthusiasm; I'll try to post as frequently as I can, though just expect to have to wait a while on occasion (after all, poetry is not something to be rushed).
Speaking of not rushing I'll start on 'Traffic Jam'. 😉

The earth is still dry;
Pine trees sway in shallow ground.
Rain is forecasted!

The air is warming up each day in in Jacksonville, Florida.  We truly need rain though!  The Kings Pines are hudge and jet up to the sky anywhere from 40, 80, to 100 feet, straight up to a ball of pine tree at the top.  Very top heavy with shallow roots!  All 4 of mine are leaning.....We really need the rain!

Death throes continue
Winter rages, Spring steals in,
one bit at a time.

Went to the park with Mullaney Thursday in a T-shirt, by 8:00 PM I drove to work in a white out blizzard! Today things are melting again!

Time swallows winter
into a retreat till fall.
Soon we bask in warmth.

I read about that BJ, wow...what a year!  I remember though, growing up in Manhattan, we only had one winter with snow, when I was a child, it was in 1965 and I was 5 years old. I used to pray for snow each xmas and it would never come!  That year though, the snow shut down 3rd Avenue!  But that was it for any type of snowy precipitation until 1973ish? and they have had snow every year since!  It's a cycle of weather, I would not be surprised if they fell into snow-less winters again soon.

Warmth brightens the land:
Vibrant blooms embrace the hills;
Once so cold and bland.

:huh:
Now, I hope we're all adhering to the challenge rules of using the last word of the previous haiku as the first word of our own, lest there no longer be a 'challenge'. Wonderful imagery everyone.

Life's fresh start begins;
Frost will be a memory;
Robins migrating.

The Robins were filling up on grubs and worms last week, I see very few of them now, they must be migrating up north.  Watch out for the them!  The geese left weeks ago...
