Subject: problems with inkychains after having conformed

Hope you can help us out.

We build a new item. It's a scuba gear (BC) for Vicki 4. This BC contains some features like posable hoses, which are attached to BC (named chest). The hose ends with the second stage. This hose got inky chains with goal 2-stage. 

Before we go and conform BC to Vicki 4 (chest) the inky chain is working perfect. Unfortunately things changes after we have conformed the BC to Vicki 4. Now activating the inky chains at 'Use inverse kinematics' the 2-stage is moving to a surprisingly position. We don't know, how to enable the inky chains and let it where it was posed. 

Is there any setting, which can be done by edit in *.cr2?

The biggest thing to consider is the memorized state. First be sure the conformer is memorized absolutuely and perfectly in a true zero pose. Conformers that restore to anything other that utter default will have issues.

That aside, Ik and conformers is always tricky. If really won;t work of the figure is scaled.

let see... ummm.. I think that is pretty much it.

Except that perhaps it is the location? Sometimes conformers are too true. Meaning that if the conformer names are the same groups as the figure it will really try to obey. If you want the chain to do it's own thing, be sure no names are the same in the chain groups and the figure groups.

It is hard to say through a pic but I hope somewhere that helps.

Didn't think about memorize, but Anton has nailed most of it.  The links in the IK chain should be completely unconformed - no matches between the conformer and conformee.  And memorization is important, but I can't understand why zeroed is better - but I won't argue with the master here. :)

The thing about IK and conformed body parts is that conformed body parts obey the conformer - IK will be in contention (and lose most likely).  If need be, add dummy body parts to isolate the IK chain from the conforming body parts.

C makes it easy to shoot yourself in the foot. C++ makes it harder, but when you do, you blow your whole leg off.

The issue seems to be that if the part is posed when memorized, conforming it will pose the part once for itself, and then again for the conforming action. The issue still exists unfortuantely. I would say it is a bug. Don't you think?

Hi Anton and Kuro,

thank you very much for your info. Yes I think it's a bug. We tried several things like edit the *cr2. We got some experiences in locking the second stage and than unlock it after we had enabled the chain. We also build some poses for posing the hose after conforming.

But these little helpers are more frustrating. So we decided to remove the chain.

One last question because I'm not sure about it. The procedure 'memorize zero position'..

What does it mean and how to do it?

What we did and perhaps it's the same:
Open the join editor, zero figure and conform it to vicki4. It doesn't help. The 2-stage was moving far away from its default display position, after we had conformed it.. We tried to zero again, but no effect.

The chain structure is (hopefully) clear and think it doesn't conflict to vicki 4

Load your figure into a blank Poser document; don't conform it to anything. Open the joint editor and zero the figure. Also check the body and hip parts to make sure there are no translations or rotations set in there. Then from the Edit menu go to Memorize > Figure. That "locks in" the zeroed starting position into your CR2, so finally you need to save that figure back into the library.

thanks for further details. Yes, we did it before like you told us . Unfortunately without a good result. But.... Something had changed: After we have had memorized the item, the 2-stage was running into another direction.
