Subject: Whee! I had a Daz sighting!

Acadia ( ) posted Fri, 25 May 2007 at 6:30 PM · edited Thu, 06 February 2025 at 5:04 PM

Only I can't tell you what it is just yet because it hasn't been completely verified by Daz.  :tongue1:  I submitted information and images, but they wanted more of both so I just sent that off and given that this is a long weekend in the USA, I don't expect to hear back from them until Tuesday.

But I was told that it looks like something that they hadn't seen before!

what's with all the mysteries 'round here tonight? are you lot playing pictionary?

just spill the beans Acadia!!, you know you wanna, you'll never be able to hold it in until tuesday.

my guess is sumfink to do with M4.

haha I am busting to tell!!!  But I have to wait until Tuesday.  Daz sightings are a pretty cut throat business because there is "money" involved.  Once I have that $10.00 certificate in my account I'll tell all :)

And finally the commercial that he is used in.

EDIT:  By the way, my tv reception is way better than is showing in the pictures!  Pausing VHS tapes gives pretty crummy images.

I don't know how to transfer an image from a VHS tape to my computer, otherwise I would post it on YouTube.  The best I could do to give Daz the extra images they posted was to use the VCR pause and snap digital photos.

I do have a digital camera and it can do movies, but I don't have a big enough memory card to use the movie feature.

Is there a way to get the commercial from VHS onto my computer?

Ok, I tried my camera's movie setting. I got about 1/2 (17 seconds) of the commercial in. The parts with the kitty in it. The next time you see him is just his arm and he's using his sword to carve a pirate-like map/poster for the Dodge Caravan sale.

Hope this works because I haven't done anything like a movie before.  You need Quicktime to view it.

I've uploaded it to my site. If someone wants to save it and post it on YouTube, go ahead. I don't know how to do that and don't have an account there.

Well done on collecting on this Acadia, but am I missing something?

That's not the Toonimal Cat/Puss n Boots, it's the Puss 'n Boots character from Shrek!

Isn't the idea to sight something that is an actual Daz product, not something that resembles a Daz product ;).

This was from a Dodge promotion where they were giving away a 'Shrek' sized family holiday to Hollywood.

As I said though, great job collecting on this :).

Call me simple, but I still don't get it.

Unless Garee also works for Dreamworks, this model has nothing to do with Daz.

Maybe I should email Daz and say I spotted one of their product in Shrek, Shrek II, and Shrek the Third :).

Or am I missing the tongue in cheek nature of this entire thread? It's happened before :).

I think what she is saying is that THAT particular model of the cat named pus n boots is not the one that was in fact made by the movie producers, but dodge used the daz pus instead.

But that is clearly not the case.

The figure featured in the Dodge commercial is quite obviously NOT the Daz figure in question, but the Dreamworks designed figure.

Am I the only person that can see this? HAS THE WORLD GONE MAD!!!

Well, 3 people at Daz, and Gareee the Puss n' Boots creator feel otherwise.

I submitted the images and information and Daz said it was their figure.

You're kidding me!

Perhaps there's something in the water over at the Daz office. Hopefully they'll all make a full recovery from their temporary psychosis.

I’m more than a little surprised that Garee has also stated this was his figure. Surely he’d know his own work!

Seriously though, do you honestly believe this to be a Daz figure?

Ultimatley, it wouldn't make any sense for Dodge to use a comparatively cheap, low quality figure for a Shrek cross promotional exercise. There is absolutely no way Dreamworks would agree to that.

I know I’m starting to come across as being a bit of a jerk (and I apologise profusely). I just can’t understand why so many people can’t see this!

I submitted it, so yes.

I called Daz today and talked to the guy and he and a couple others in his office checked out the images and said that it was their figure and issued me the voucher while I was on the phone with them and they sent me a confirmation email: > Quote - Hi Linda,

We just spoke on the phone.  I spoke with my coworker and it definitely does look like our Toonimal Kitty.  I have issued you a 30-day voucher for $10.  Thanks for the sighting!!!

Please let me know if there is any other way I can help.

However, if it turns out to be an error, I don't feel right about keeping the $10.00. If it isn't their figure I'll contact them and have them remove the voucher from my account.

Just watched the commercial (on youtube) and it looks pretty much like the exact model Dreamworks used when making the movie...  especially at the end part with Shrek...  I don't see the resemblence of the Daz model at all...

fyi...  I too am not trying to be a jerk......

Nah, keep the $10 Acadia!

You submitted it in good faith and it was accepted.

Whether they realise their folly, $10 isn't exactly much of a loss.

Besides, you're only going to spend it on Daz's own digitally delivered content, making the actual cost to Daz minute.

No, if it's not their figure then I can't keep  the voucher. It wouldn't be right.  I submitted the images in good faith believing that it was the Toonimal Puss n Boots, and if it's not then I don't deserve to have been given a $10.00 voucher.  It's not right to keep it if it isn't a valid sighting :(

The only parts I did would be the hat, boots, belt/scabbard and sword.

Pusses face does not look "right" to me in a few shots, and that's what lead me to believe that this might not be the actual dreamworks models used.

I'll have to rewatch it again... someone did duplicate the "big eyed" look with the mill cat (Little dragon,. perhaps), and the youtube video is too poor quality to really tell one thing from another.

The resident R'osity cat expert has arrived! :)

Connie's avatar illustrates my point perfectly. Compare the proportions, colouring, even the fur stripe patterns! Identical. The Daz version isn't even close, cute though it may be.

I'm just glad I'm not alone in my opinion anymore. I was starting to think maybe I was going crazy!

BTW I think what Gareee was saying is he didn't design the cat mesh for the Daz figure, just the accompanying items. I don't think he was saying these items were the ones used in the advertisement. I could be wrong.

yeah that's my opinion now, being OVERLY familiar with the dreamworks one ( I watched Shrek 2 at least 5 times this week curtosy of my 3 yr old).

If the pics claw posted are the daz cat, well the one in that commercial just definately aint it.

In my defense, I've never seen any Shrek movies.  I don't care for cartoon movies. I prefer movies that have real live people in them, not voice overs.

Anyway, I feel like a thief :(  I'll call Daz tomorrow and tell them to take back the voucher.

All time favorite animated movie is The Emperors New Groove.
