Subject: Is it safe to install Python 2.5 with Poser installed?

LostinSpaceman ( ) posted Tue, 05 June 2007 at 1:57 PM · edited Tue, 04 February 2025 at 12:50 AM

Or should I stick with Python 2.2 because of Poser?

I have Python 2.4 installed independently of Poser with no ill effects.

makes no difference; I THINK poser calls up a specific instance only from the version it comes with. regardless, I've run python and poser on the same system for years, with nary a problem.

Poser only uses its Runtime installation of Python, and that can't be updated.  Installing Python separately won't have any effect on Poser.  Which is kind of a bummer, really.  It would be nice if Poser were more like Blender in this respect, able to look outside the Runtime for a full installation, to use that when it's available.

Cage can be an opinionated jerk who posts without thinking.  He apologizes for this.  He's honestly not trying to be a turkeyhead.

Cage had some freebies, compatible with Poser 11 and below.  His Python scripts were saved at archive.org, along with the rest of the Morphography site, where they were hosted.

One possible problem to watch for: Sometimes an external Python installer
writes a line in your registry that forces the whole system to look only at the
external "PythonPath".  Poser can get confused in that case; might not
happen with P7 though.

Ah... so I don't even have to install Python at all if all the Python using versions of Poser load their own version from their runtime. Cool, one less item to suck up space on my hard drive since I had to do a fresh install of WIndows on this computer! I won't install Python at all. I honestly can't recall why I had it installed before the crash!

Right.  The only reason to have a separate Python install is
if you're going to run some free-standing scripts that are
totally unrelated to Poser.
