Subject: what do you think of the xfrog stuff for sale at DAZ?

Is it useful? How good is it? What do you actually get? I must say, that the descriptions of products are far better at renderosity than at daz when it comes to software and utilities. Love esther

Rendo had as a free item in the newsletter some xfrog billboards .

They work very well as background fill. Being flat you cant move around them or get very close without it being obvious.

Just load them into the scene and position it where you want it . There really is nothing to play with unless you try adjusting color. Its basically a square prop with an image map and transparency mask .

thanks! is it hard to keep them facing the camera at all times?

It must be better quality then than some of the other transmapped planes then??  Like DAZ has a bunch of those in some of their environment sets and I was never all the impressed with them to be honest!!

There are two different product lines here. The billboards are flat transmapped planes, much like the planes in the various environment sets, but of higher quality. They look great for medium and long range shots.

The other product is Xfrog itself which is an excellent plant and tree creator. It creates true 3d trees. A word of warning though it doesn't work well with poser because the models it creates are gigantic like almost 10 million polys gigantic. In order to reduce the number you have to have the Xfrog Tune program which adds over a $100 to the price tag.

I'm really fond of the PC club's Lisa's Botanicals. I just wish they were made available natively in Vue format.

Way too many people take way too many things way too seriously.

"There are two different product lines here. " that's not very clear on the DAZ website. I have a mac and would be using these mostly in poser. It doesn't even state anything about mac compatability at DAZ. Love esther

I remember a smart weather prop from the freestuff.  It was a simple plane, but had the property of always facing the camera.  I was never sure how this was done.  I did find though, that I could reposition and scale it so that it could be used as a background object.  It seems like maybe if the object could be reparented, but still always face the camera, it would be a great way to make useful billboards.  I'd love to see this work, as then they could be clustered to a tree trunk object...  The possibilities would be endless.

It's probably a case of position it then parent it to the camera maybe?

That doesn't seem like it would work for animations.  I want to put alot of little billboards on the ground, move over them, but have them always face the camera,

With the correct orientation of the poles, pointing it at the camera would do this.

Hi Ester.  The only version of X-frog that is for the mac is the Xfrog 4.2 for cinema 4d.  All the others are windows compatible only.  I checked things out at xfrog.com.

Hi David, but the billobards would be okay for us mac users. Also it doesnt say on the website if Xfrog 4.2 is compatible with UB computer and version 10 of C4D which I have. Actually I feel the info is very scanty on the DAZ website. Love esther
