Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 17 1:30 pm)
Yea the above is true, however, I was trying scrounge some help for particular scene from a critique group. Sorry, I probably should have clarified that little more up front.
If I understood right the idea was to try and set up some lights to fake radiosity in the focal point area of the image. Perhaps with filler lights or tweaking texture settings. I don't think P7 or IBL was being used, hence the 'faking it' question.

Cool Thanks :)
Maybe the person I was talking to will jump in with more specific questions when they get on line...

Try this thread at RDNA. Bagginsbill found a way to get great lighting using only 1 IBL light"It is good to see ourselves as
others see us. Try as we may, we are never
able to know ourselves fully as we
are, especially the evil side of us.
This we can do only if we are not
angry with our critics but will take in good
heart whatever they might have to
say." - Ghandi

Well, just to make a bit of a distinction here, Radiosity in itself is not the same thing as Global Illumination although it is an element that is a part of what causes it. Radiosity is essentially bounced or reflected light, where if you have two objects close to one another, the color of one object will be projected onto the surface of the second object along the areas where the two (or more) objects are in closest proximity to each other, due to this reflected light.
Like if you place a red pool ball on a sheet of white paper, the bounced light from the red ball will cause a redish glow or tint on the paper where the ball is sitting. A blue or green ball will then reflect their own respective colors against the paper.
While the new AO and IBL lighting feature in Poser do a pretty good job at creating a global illumnation it is still not "Radiosity".

Which is precisely why we're talking about 'faking radiosity' here, no?

That would be my asumption. yes.. In Poser, using HDRI is a pretty decent "fake" because it applies the colors of the HDR image to the global illumination but it still does not actually calculate or photon map the bounced light in the true colors of the actual objects in the scene, so in essense, it's still "faking it"..

I have to admit I don't do a lot of final renders in Poser, so I'm not up to speed on a lot of Poser specific tricks. A question has come up about how to fake some decent radiosity (global illumination) in Poser.
I know some people do it by setting up several lights, other play with texture settings etc...
Any tricks you guys and gals would like to share?
