Subject: Question about Hair Creation

kalon ( ) posted Sat, 09 June 2007 at 1:29 PM · edited Fri, 22 November 2024 at 3:12 AM

What determines whether a hair is set up as a prop (pp2), hair prop (hr2) or conformer (cr2) and is there any special trick to converting a prop hair to a hair prop?

prop and hair prop are the same thing...both are parented to the head of the character...me thinks that this is done this way to keep everything straight.

conformer hair is usually more complex and requires it to span multiple body parts...requiring less morphs then with the props type.

Cr2 requires bones
hr2 pp2 do not

I tried saving a prop hair (lisbeth's mandy hair) as a hr2 (because I keep forgetting it. languishing in my props library). After I saved it, it looked like all was well all the morphs were on parameter dials, but none of them work. What am I doing wrong?

kalon, try just renaming the extension from .pp2 to .hr2.  That's the only difference in the files.

Thanks, that worked. Not quite the way I expected, but the morphs worked.

You can either leave it where it is or create a folder for it under hair but that's the simplest thing I could think of.

Oh, no, Victoria, I hope I didn't give the impression that I didn't appreciate the assistance. I'm just trying to figure things out. I have hair by this vendor in cr2 form, pp2 form and hr2 form and I think I might be better able to maneuver if I understood why all the variety. I understand cr2, particularly for long hair, but this is a shorter model.... shrug

And your recommendation was spot on, I just hadn't thought ahead/didn't realize that once it was switched none of the mat poses would work.

Go figure. I am way too lazy to redo all the mats, or manually apply the textures everytime I want to use the hair... so guess what, it's back as a pp2. I'll just put a sticky on the side of my screen to remember.

If you have a good text editor you can always open the .pz2 files and do a search/replace for hair-name.pp2 to hair-name.hr2.  That way all the mat post files will still work and you've got a nice hair prop.

Either way, I know you appreciate the suggestions.  That's what we're here for.
