You can then delete those rsr files.

I don't really know what you mean by "open".  Do you mean to somehow load an .rsr file into Poser like you would a .pz3 scene file?  If so -- rsr files aren't designed for that.  All that .rsr files do is to provide thumbnail images in the Poser libraries.  Rsr's have no other function than that.

P4 required .rsr files in order to display thumbnail images in the libraries.  But P7 does not require the .rsr's.  As mariner has already indicated -- you can simply open up a library, and P7 will automatically create .png images off of the .rsr's.  After which you can delete the .rsr's.  They are just excess baggage once the .png files have been created.

You'll get that message when a file is:

A.  Corrupt -- in which case you'll have to replace or repair the file.

or

B.  When you attempt to open a file that is not a .pz3 scene file -- or perhaps when you attempt to load a file into a scene that is not a .pp2, .cr2, .hr2, or .lt2 file.

Rsr files don't "load" into a scene -- all that .rsr files do is to provide a library thumbnail image.  If you've got a prop or a figure in your library which doesn't have a connected .rsr or .png file, then you'll see a shrugging man icon in the library position for that prop or figure.

Perhaps you've got an .rsr file which is giving you a thumbnail image -- but the file which the .rsr is showing (a prop or a figure) is itself either missing or corrupt.

Great!  And you are certainly welcome.

XENOPHONZ,  you are fogetting the RSR's in the geometry folders. They have been known to get corrupted and deleting them and letting Poser rebuild them will fix them.

BTW, I don't think that is what the problem here was, Sounded to me like you had it right answer in your first post. You can't load rsr's into poser.

I should add that I was somewhat mystified by the initial inquiry........and so my responses where based upon a certain amount of guesswork as to what was being asked for.

Veering off topic, but Poser hasn't used geometry RSRs since version 4. If you've updated they can all be deleted from the geometry folders only. Don't delete thumbnail RSRs from the library unless you're certain there are corresponding PNGs too. Further off topic: if you have an RSR but have lost the OBJ, Anthony Appleyard has a convertor at the link.

I've had to use Anthony's rsr2obj program a few times because some older downloads occasionally only provided the rsr and not the obj file. Deleting thumbnail RSRs isn't dangerous, but is a nuisance because the library files will then only be represented by the shrugging poser thumb till the file is reinstalled. If a person has opened every library folder, they can do a search for all RSRs and delete them.

Right, I have P4/5/6/7 all installed for testing so I still see  them when I'm wondering around in the p4 geometry.

Think it's time to retire a few versions? LOL

I open all my files first and delet those RSR's before installing into my runtimes, unless that is all there is then I open poser and the new files to generate the PNGs. Go back in and delete the rsrs.

I don't really worry about the rsr's -- of either type.  Hard drives are much larger than they used to be these days, and so a group of small files don't bother me.  Especially not when there's always the off-chance that I might accidentally delete something that I end up discovering that I need later on.  Which is a hazard whenever someone goes in and starts doing across-the-board file deletions.  There's always the possiblity that you've overlooked something.
