Is there a way to use bryce materials in vue ? There is a lot of good textures out there and I was curious if they could be used somehow.

Hi glennjan, No, not that I know of there isn't. Just play around with Vue's materials-- they are very easy to edit, and after a while you'll be able to get the same effects as Bryce materials. I never had anywhere near as easy of a time editing materials in Bryce as I do with Vue. :)

Yeah Vue seems easy to change materials (Im using 2.1 so I would hope that 4 would be really better )I guess I am just lazy and wanted to apply pre made materials ....there seems to be a lot more out there...maybe Im just looking in the wrong places I guess....oh well just curious...I wish they would just release version 4 already...I dont want to buy 3.1 and then have to upgrade....Thanks

Most 3D programs have their own native procedural textures that only work in their specific program. But I have taken LOTS of stuff out of Bryce, including unique-to-Bryce procedurals. They won't work or look EXACTLY the same, but I have had pretty good results myself- especially if you know how to re-tweak them inside VUE... To get all kinds of stuff out of Bryce, read Wolfie's excellent Bryce-Export tutorials... (Go to the BRYCE section, Tutorials, Intermediate-Getting Things Out Of Bryce...)

Y'know, Fox, somehow I knew you were going to come along and say something like this. I almost said, "Let's just wait to see if Fox-Mulder knows.".... I sort of wondered if it was possible, especially since Vue and Bryce use the same .mat extension. Hmmm... I'm gonna have to look into this, thanks for the info!

I just looked at it real quickly, but it seems as though all that's happening is the material is being converted to an image file? Vue does that too-- one of the terrain export features. As would be expected though, though you can export a Vue terrain with it's material converted to .bmp and import that into Bryce, even with the texture automatically applied, it loses al it's more important features, such as altitude-dependence, etc.... I assume that Bryce materials would act the same in Vue?

well, if you guys are willing to dig into the earlier part of the Vue forum after it started not long by one Bongo Sarong or something like that...he has a way of using Bryce material for Vue. He's still around at the Poser list. Kind recall heo he did it though.
