Perhaps you have seen my Godzilla animation done in Poser (at YouTube.com).  Well, you haven't seen my short children's-story animation called "Little Frogs" (a still shot attached) that was also done in entirely Poser.  It  is now a finalist in the Animations category of the Moondance International Film Festival to be held at Universal Studios in Holly wood this September.  Who said Poser can't be taken seriously in the arts world.  Bah, humbug!

Thanks for the support, everyone.  Win or not, I consider it a win for the Poser community just to get selected as a finalist.

FYI, the animation is based on a short, rhyming story that my brother did for a preschool class he teaches.  It goes along with a lesson plan about the good side of cultural diversity.  It's about two little frogs (the DAZ toon frogs) who wander away from their swamp home, and on their journey discover other little frogs living nearby in the swamp who have different skin coloration and speak different froggy languages.  Even though the little frogs can't communicate verbally with each other, they quickly discover they can play and have fun together anyway.  Soon the frogs are reunited with their parents, and at the end of the story all of the frogs in the swamp are visiting each other and getting along and even learned to communicate by speaking a combined froggy language.  The school kids and their teachers loved it.  I got a Canadian band (Keri Lattimer of the band "Nathan") to put the story to music then animated to that.

I'm just starting to animate another story he did about little black ants, but I first need  to find a musician to put it to music ( I envison sort of a latino/salsa/hip-hop beat, which comes to mind when I think of the old "Ants, ants, ants in your pants" lymric.)

Also I just had another hard drive crash, so I need to replace it and hope my backup works.

Gaah! On the HDD crash....! As for the music.... Have you ever looked at SonicFire Pro? The nice thing about the app is that is SmartSound is always turning out new content to use. Philippe Bouyer uses that app for the scoring on the Vue 5 and 6 demo reels, so there's a quick way to hear what you can get quality-wise.... The really nice thing about SFP4 is the way the music tracks work. A music track comes in a multi-layered format; so you have a 'layer' for drums, vocal, brass, etc, and can mute, or fade control the given layers. The music is also created in timed packets, with a few other bits of info on things like tempo included, so you can extend a music track simply by assigning a longer runtime (or shorten it), and the application with fiddle with the packets so that you get a seamless bit of music. You can also disassemble and combine packets from various scores, and create something unique. There's lot more that' easier to check out on the website (including getting sample plays from the various smartmusic collections for sale) IF you don't mind working with .wav clips, another option is to check out the Magix Soundpool DVD; #12 was just released. You get 6+gigs of varying types of music styles you can edit in a audio program. The liscencing is a bit more restrictive than what Smartsound has on SFP4, though....

Thanks again to all of you well-wishers.  The international animation competition is really stiff, and includes pros and semi-pros with more powerful computers and animation tools, formal animation training and support staff, none of which I have.  So winning anything is probably not going to happen, but as I said befoe, just getting selected at a festival billed as "the American Cannes" in Hollywood is a win for the Poser community, much less for all of us home-PC dabbling, self-taught, weekend animation hobbyists.

Dale B., I have programs similar to SonicFire, but I need a musician to sing the story.  For the Little Frogs animation, Keri Lattimer of the Canadian band "Nathan" (www.nathanmusic.ca) did an excellent job scoring the soundtrack and singing the lyrics all in a perfect style for the subject matter.  That's what I need again (Nathan's style is not the right one I'm looking for this time), as I can't sing at all, and the vocal style really needs to fit in seamlessly with the music.

How did you manage to find it? I looked and there are 22,600 entries for Godzilla.

Wow! Congratulations Terry! I'd love to know how you went about finding a musician to score your track! Are there Musician forums somewhere that you got Nathan from or did you already know him personally? Enquiring minds would love to know the process you used in finding collaborative talent!

Thanks for the new round of congratulations.

Acadia, at YouTube enter the search words "Poser" and Godzilla" to find my animation titled "A Tribute to Godzilla.

SteveJax, the band is called "Nathan" (Check out their music at  www.nathanmusic.com), and their lead singer, Keri Lattimer, scored the music and did the singing.  I lucked out in that my sister knew Keri.

Not having as much luck finding a musician/band for my current animation project (a childrens story about a colony of little black ants).  It needs sort of a latino/salsa/hip-hop sound.  I'm going to try using the  online classified ad service the Craig List (do a Google search for one in your specific area) to see if that gets results.

WOW!  Very impressive!  I can't wait to see this next one.  I can see why you were nominated :)

Thanks, Acadia.  I originally had hoped to enter "Godzilla" into a fim festival, but couldn't get Toho Studios to OK the use of the Godzilla likeness.  The "Little Frogs" animation that got to the finalist stage at the Moondance festival is less ambitious of an animation than "Godzilla" was.  "Godzilla" took forever and ever to make, "Little Frogs" just took forever.
