Subject: Firefox Question

Anniebel ( ) posted Tue, 12 June 2007 at 6:41 PM · edited Sun, 05 January 2025 at 8:07 PM

Ok against my better judgement I thought I would give Firefox a go, & I have to admit it isn't bad so far.

Two questions though....

  1. I have been using this...

a.forum_threadname_link:visited { font-size:12px; color:fuchsia; }
a.forum_threadname_link:active { font-size:12px; color:red; }

in my forum options, so I know which threads I have visited, but it is not working in the Firefox browser, does anyone know how I get it to work?

  1. How do I clear cookies / history etc, I cannot find it in Firefox?

Thanks

Not sure on how to set up the links for changes within forums. To change active / visited links normally, I'm sure you've figured out.

To Clear cookies and history it's Tools (menu bar) -> Options -> Privacy

Thanks I stared at those tabs for ages, but didn't think to look at he privacy one.

I liked the funtionality of the CSS script & knowing which thread I had read, I hope it can be fixed.

Anniebel,

You might check the add ons for FireFox, there may be one that gives FireFox that ability.

Go to options, content and then your see Fonts and Colors.
Click on Colors and then you can pick the color on the links.

That still doesn't mark the threads I have read though

Just go to the top of the page and click on [mark all forums read] or below that there is [mark all read] and [mark all before 4:04pm read] and it will have other times in it for you.

Yes that is all very well for when you have finished browsing a forum & I use that, not much good though for while you are still browsing & threads are jumping all over the place. That is why I used the CSS Script, because then I knew where I have been.

Thanks anyway.

I guess this is a major disadvantage of firefox CSS scripts don't work here - yes?

Hi Anniebel,
I dcan't answer your questions,
but if you persist with Firefox then the following extension
is easy on the eyes:
"Colorful Tabs"  downlodable at:  https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1368

Also the following setting in about:config is useful -
browser.tabs.tabMinWidth = 75   # the default is 100.

Sorry Anniebel I don't know what else to do to help you out.

Hi Anniebel,
**
It looks like something is possible, but is very buggy.
I copied your code into my Forum Options
a.forum_threadname_link:visited { font-size:12px; color:fuchsia; } WORKED
a.forum_threadname_link:active { font-size:12px; color:red; } FAILED.
However when I started playing around with a.forum_author_link
,EVERYTHING failed to work, and I had to delete all CSS code,
save this, then re-add a.forum_threadname_link:visited
to get it to work.

I don't understand what you are telling me to do.

Do you mean I delete everything & put just...

a.forum_threadname_link:visited

& nothing else?

Thanks

Sorry,
I pasted all my code to notepad.
Then I deleted all the code from Rendorosity.
Clicked on Save Changes.
Pasted ALL the code back from notepad.
Again clicked on Save Changes.

This restored the functionality I originally had.

Anniebel ( ) posted Sat, 16 June 2007 at 1:26 AM

Ok thanks, this is what I have tried...

  1. I deleted all code, saved changes

  2. pasted a.forum_threadname_link:visited { font-size:12px; color:fuchsia; } saved changes, but nothing changed

  3. deleted all code again, saved changes

  4. pasted a.forum_threadname_link:visited saved changes, but again nothing changed

I don't have any other styles, this is the only one I want, maybe it won't work by itself

Thanks for the help anyway.

Yes if you wanted links you have clicked on to change colors then you need to have it in your history. So go to your history and set the days you want want to keep a history.
I would also check any other programs that can also clear your history because even if your not clearing it from Firefox you may be clearing it from another program.
I use Zone Alarm and it would have the option to clear on netscape but it will not clear anything on firefox. I have a older version of ZA Pro but I still don't think they have added Firefox from what I hear.

mccoyneil ( ) posted Wed, 20 June 2007 at 6:48 AM

Where is this "History" setting?

Anniebel ( ) posted Wed, 20 June 2007 at 4:21 PM

Tools>Options>Privacy

Then at the top under History it say Remember visited pages for the last X days - X being the number you put in the box.

Also best not to let the history get to big or it will slow things down so don't make too many days.
Then if you want to you can open your history and highlight the day or sites you want to and right click and delete them. That way you just keep a history on sites you want the history on like forums.

May want to get MozBackup 1.4.5 http://mozbackup.jasnapaka.com/

Great for backups and restore of...

MozBackup is a simple utility for creating backups of
Mozilla Firefox, Mozilla Thunderbird, SeaMonkey,
Mozilla Suite and Netscape profiles.

It allows you to backup and restore bookmarks, mail,
contacts, history, extensions, cache etc.

The history is not something your really want to backup but this will do it for you.
This can also be added to another computer and you can do a backup on the one PC and then take it to the other PC and do a restore.
Note: some plugins and extensions may still need to be reinstalled if your doing a restore on a new profile.
Also on the backups are saved as a .pcv file type "Firefox 1.5.0.12 (en-US) - 2007-06-20.pcv" and you can rename the .pvc to .zip and open them too.

I keep my history at 9 days but I also clear it all the time. But with the added days if I am gone for a couple days I can then still have a history to use at forums to catch up on more easy.
