Avatarially speaking are there any drawbacks to using the same name there as you do here? Isit worth it?Is it rubbish?Iquite fancy being a bsker there.

You'll be lucky if you can get the EXACT name you want. I had to settle for BRYSTER SHAN. So if you see me there say hello!

So far I have found SL really interesting and I'm concentrating on fixing my appearance - something I could never get right in this life or on my homeworld Mars.

Becareful not to include any groups you have joined in your name. I've seen people with names like 'Canadian Educator Emily Grupp' !!!!!!

I think on the whole SL can be a whole lot of fun if you have the time...

See You in Second Life!

BTW Building 3D stuff is really easy.

I'm too busy trying to find the time to do all the things I want to do in my first life to be able to dabble in a second one:-)

Second Life?  but I'm not done with this one yet!

Fran: Second Life (SL) is a virtual world inhabited by avavtars(SS) Each Avatars is a representation of a real person in the real or 1st Life. You live an entire life in SL doing what you want, dressing as you want, living where you want, owning what you want.
The difference is that in SL you can earn real money to use in the real world and some people actually earn enough to pay all their bills in the real world. With over 7 million people living in SL it has become a huge community doing virtually everything from dancing to building to partying to war games to engaging in orgies.............in a virtual way I assume!

Check it out. There are quite a few vids on YOUTUBE and google.
SL is not necessarily a game...........more of a way of life....!

I'm just thinking about it as you have to download and install a program... Not sure if I can afford the space.

Hey, gang.  I happened on this thread because I joned SL two days ago (SL name is Igraine McMillan).  Ricky was not available sooooo I decided on the name of one of my favorite Arthurian characters (King Arthur's mother).

I've been trying to get the hang of modelling with the SL system, but I'm not making a lot of progress.  Bryster, I may look you up to get some assistance.  If that's ok.

Mostly right now I've been out freebie shopping so that my avatar looks nice.  She's a nice, rather conservatively dressed, girl next door type.

People keep telling me that you can use things modelled in other applications in SL, but I haven't figured out how yet.  Of course I've only been a member for two days ... and there is a learning curve.  However, I've run into some really nice and helpful people (one took me on a virtual shopping trip the other day and showed me how to buy stuff ... fix my hair ... all that sort of stuff.

It really is fun.  I just enjoy walking around and meeting people.  I'm hoping to put my lecture series on getting to the top of your law school class into SL.

Ricky

Ricky: You can't import object into SL....YET.
but making things is really easy. You have to remember however that to lock all your object together the LINK command is top toolbar...world/linkobjects.....I think.......!

It should be on the build palette but it isn't.

Look around for me! I'll be in an orgy.....er....I mean sandpit somewhere. 😉

I'm having a hard time understanding how people build all this great stuff out of just primitives.  It's amazing.
