why are the galleries running slow again for several days.the other parts of the Renderoaity web site run normal speed

The programmers are looking into this.  There has been a very high amount of gallery traffic in the last month or so as well.

Hopefully they can resolve this soon.

Stacey, I'm really going to have a tough time justifying paying my $90 Platinum subscription to this site if this keeps up!  (no slap to the OP...yeah, it's slow)
