Subject: A question about importing .3ds files to poser

When i import a 3ds file to Poser 4.03, poser smooth all faces of the model, and the look isnt good. Is it any way poser dont do this? Can you select the level of the smooth of imported model in poser. thanks.

I don't think there is a way to stop Poser from smoothing. But if you save the model in .dxf format it will not get smoothed. I think there are lines in .3ds and .obj files that start with the letter S which tells Poser it's OK to smooth them. ScottA

Poser pretty much ignores the s line in an obj file. Knowing this ahead of time, you can make your model with beveled edges or coplanar edges. See the link above for an illustration on DAZ's site.

It's difficult to do this with after the item is already modelled, and a simple solution is, converting to obj, and then take it into UVMapper and "split vertices." This will un-weld all the polygons which stops the smoothing process and gives nice sharp edges.

The problem is that i want some smooth edges and some sharp edges in the same model.

Then you need to bevel or coplanar the edges you want sharp.
