Subject: Wanted: Disney Tinkerbell and Jessica Rabbit etc...ideas for similar?

graphicsguy ( ) posted Thu, 28 June 2007 at 1:27 PM · edited Fri, 26 July 2024 at 2:23 PM

Hi -

Although I am very sensitive to the fact that commercial modelers here can't create and sell A3 or whatever morph packs/characters from copyrighted characters... (unless they're "parodies" and hence exempt from copyright restrictions?)...  does anyone have any links or resources or ideas on how to create characters like:

  • Tinkerbell
  • Jessica Rabbit
  • celebrity "lookalikes" (beyond the excellent voyagernights and lara ones)

??

It seems this would be a huge market, and I'm certainly a buyer, if anyone has any suggestions.
Sitemail me if needed, I'd really like to hear your folks' take on it.

I haven't seen much in forum threads out there, here or RDNA or daz or ContentP, but it seems that many of us who are animation fans, would REALLY like to get characters that "closely resemble" but don't infringe copyright, on popular characters.

What's your folks take on it?   I'd suggest someone talk w/ a lawyer to find out what the exact restrictions are on what could be created, because for you merchants, this is a "huge" opportunity, for the talented modelers here, to sell content to us new poser folks who don't want to take hours to create the characters from scratch/character mods..

Thanks,

Ken

looks like there's a couple of other threads, eg celeb lookalikes:
http://market.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/showthread.php?thread_id=2699801

but what about animated characters, eg Aeon Flux, Tinkerbell, Jessica Rabbit etc?
I'm a buyer if anyone has anything that's really good.

graphicsguy ( ) posted Thu, 28 June 2007 at 1:34 PM

As a good example, eg it appears that "the Girl" is very similar to the "Bratz" dolls sold in stores, though it's not infringing ...

Anyone have tink or JR or other animated character "lookalikes" that are legal/ok?

thx,

ken

Jessica Rabbit - there are at least two morphs+dresses for Victoria 3, and they're free too AFAIK. I'm fairly sure one of them was by nerd (www.nerd3d.com)

PhilC has a  free Jessica Rabbit dress on his site.  http://www.philc.net/

I used a Jessica Rabbit like morph for Girl in my girl promos, and there's a jessica dress for her.

My favorite Tink is actiual Neftoon Gal, but I don;t think she's available any longer... you can Im Neftis over at daz though, and maybe she'll sell you a copy.

somebody was selling V3 jess rabbit in the store here, but i don't recall what name they hadda use to avoid trademark issues. there were also some other versions, which either didn't make it out of beta, or which were sold at one of the other poser sites.

that grrl morph is very good IMVHO. garee, are ya selling that somewhere?

Gareee ( ) posted Thu, 28 June 2007 at 2:15 PM

That's part of the Grrrl Plus morph set over at Daz.. the base set was available when she launched, and the upgrade was made available like a year later. Also in the freepository, is a merge of both Capsces Boopsie morph set, and my Grrrl plus morph set.. so if you own both, there's not a hell of a lot you can't do with Girl.

The image had the credits for the other two things needed for Jessica.. the dress. and also the Diva hair for Girl.

I did the neftoon tink becuase I worked on Tink for Dinsey, and wanted a poser Tink of some kind. The Tink dress was actually the first poser content item I did, with the wand and shoes being the second and third. Right after that, I did the Power Pixie. (I used his wings for Nextink in that image as well.)

Hey thanks... if anyone has links to buy neftoon and/or the tink stuff, that would be great.. will do re pm'ing over there for nef ...

you'd think these would be really popular characters ... !    not much out there I can find, and I've looked on all the forums/content sites..

I'd  appreciate any help anyone could render...  :)
hey that's a pun

Neftis used to run Polymage, but it went belly up and closed like 6 months ago. That's why I said to Im her at Daz.. since she is the creator, she'll have all the installers for neftoon content, and you could probably work out a paypal arrangement with her for neftoon gal.

Thanks Garee, I tried to locate her in the daz3d forums, but no username there for neftis was active... so I emailed daz's support folks to ask them to pass along my request to her.. great idea, thanks.  And that's a terrific set of pix above, both the jessica and tink ones, I'd really like to get the characters/accessories for those.  I'll keep looking.

This stuff is way too fun!   This one looks close for tink so far:
http://www.contentparadise.com/us/user/mayqueen_for_terai_yuki_2_product_20409
hmm just sort of...

Also, I can pay/hire modelers to create characters for me... I'd want the pz3 scene file and
I can buy whatever sources are needed... is there someplace here to hire you folks, modelers,
for specific small/quick projects like that?

Thanks,

Ken

As for Celebrity lookalike morphs - as you say, besided  Orion1107 and the RM Lara,  I'd suggest the following

Jefe has numerous packs of male celebs - often three or so to a bundle - for David and AM.
Gwendolyn (3D-Celebrity) has a good number of female celebs for V3 and V4.
And Syltermermaid has 2 new series - Stars in her eyes - and Real Woman - her and at 3D Digital Studio - of celebs.

And Mariny's Marrilee is suibably Marilynesque..

thanks Garee, just did as you'd suggested, thanks!  I always like to support great artists... plus it would be super to get some of these characters... I'm sure there's a lot of us out there who would buy ones that are similar (but not infringing) to known 'toon/celeb figures...

will do re checking the other links, thanks as always!

I love neftoon gal.. she's still one of my favorite female characters.

Neftis has been doing hair for daz... maybe she can be coaxed into releasing a neftoon gal bundle with all her goodies. Better then just retiring the character.

FaerieWylde's also had a free tink dress for both Aiko 3 and Victoria 4. It's actually located in their store. I'm not sure, but I think you have to register (free) for both.

Hi, found what I needed for the Jessica Rabbit look, very nice hair and dress, all for just $2 (platinum club) at daz, called "Diva" for the Girl...:

http://www.daz3d.com/i.x/shop/itemdetails/-/?item=2468

Still need a face though, but at least that's the hair and dress, which is a big part of it.  Actually for a Jessica Rabbit, I'd prefer to see a V3/V4 morph vs the Girl, but it's ok.

Great reference for the tink dress too, thanks - there were 2 there, at the site you mentioned, got 'em.

Now if I could just get a character for the tink face, I'd be all set, I'm thinking an A3-based one would be best.
I may just "do it myself", though I've never used face room yet.  Does anyone have any tips on developing a character based on screencaps from a cartoon movie?  Does that work, or not?

thx,

k

Gareee ( ) posted Sun, 01 July 2007 at 2:05 PM

I posted my Grrrl morphs for the Girl, and if you noticed, it listed the hair and dress used for that look as well.. ;)

I'm still partial to Neftoon Gal for Tink (her hair also works hiding some of it's parts), but I'm nnot sure what you'd use for her tink dress.

You can also find some excellent head morphs here:

http://moggadeet.ellpro.com/

All free and mostly male- but they don't enclude textures. Most are for Micheal 3 and you can use his universal textures available at DAZ.

graphicsguy ( ) posted Thu, 05 July 2007 at 3:41 PM

hey thanks, got any more celeb type sites like that?  those are great... nice find!

graphicsguy, I don't know if this is what you are looking for, but I did a "tink type charactor" using anime doll, anime eyes, faewing_1, wBizshoe, cheerleader dress, MDi Bikini Bot2, all from freestuff I beleive. If you have these items I can send you the pz3 file. I have been a big fan of tink for a long time. This is the best I have been able to do at this time. I hope the image shows up. skee.
