Does anyone know if there is a bones-type of plug-in available for Carrara? Thanks for any information....

Well, AFX (www.afx.com) made an RDS bone plug-in (in addition to many other cool plugs), but it costs money. They said that they are not currently porting them to Carrara because o the situation at MetaCreations. I emailed the guys, and they said that their 3DS plugin, SceneGenie, is currently taking all their time, but they will rethink their Carrara plans once they get a break from SceneGenie. This is fairly hopeful as AFX makes quite a few very cool plugins. So good news. Nebula Supernova Studios

There is a plug-in for bones and lipsynch for Carrara. It's availabel at www.losthorizonsoftware.com. It's cheaper than the AFX plug-in. These are its characteristics : Carrara Power Pack Company: Lost Horizon Software The Carrara Power Pack is a collection of 8 extensions that add a lot of functionality to Carrara. Morpher: Morph targets come to Carrara! This extension morphs one vertex model into a one or more different vertex models. Great for facial animation! 3D Lumber Yard w/ Planks: Highly acclaimed 3D wood shader, also generates 'planks' for customized wooden flooring. Planks: Complement to Lumber Yard's planks, this shader can be used for a bump map or a mixer for gaps in the planks. 3D Noise Factory: Highly Customizable 3D noise, including Perlin Noise (turbulence) 3D Sphereical Gradient: A 3D gradient that emiantes out from a user defined point. Great for explosions! 4D Volumetric Clouds: These are animatable volumetric clouds with many controls. Noise Deformer: Deforms the mesh of an object in a random fashion - great for making things look old and busted. Noise Tweener: Randomly tweens back and forth between keyframes, very customizable, great for use with Morpher. Download at: http://www.losthorizonsoftware.com/files/CPP_WIN32.zip (PC) http://www.losthorizonsoftware.com/files/CPP_MAC.sit (MAC) Purchase at: http://www.losthorizonsoftware.com/order/order.htm Price: USD $29.95 It does only exist for Carrara, not for RDS. Well, you listed a morph target plug in, but I checked the site, and I didn't see a bone or lipsynch plugin...where did you find those on the site? Nebula Supernova Studios

I do not belive that Lost Horizons makes either of these plug-ins. A Lipsynch or Bones

I contacted someone from AFX some time ago. They said they didn't have plans to port Bones, or any of their RDS plug-ins for Carrara.

Well, after the Nebula's reply, I had doubts about the plug-in that was described on the Eovia site. I the checked the Lost Horizon Software web site and found a description of the Carrara Power Pack at this URL : http://www.losthorizonsoftware.com/products/cpack.htm. If you can't reach for it, this is the dexription provided on the web site : "Procedural Shaders- 3d Lumber Yard with Planks: The ultimate procedural wood texture. Lumber Yard uses a 3d algorithm to generate wood that looks real, regardless of the object it is applied to. Lumber Yard also allows the user to define a surface made of many planks, with the option to vary the shade of each plank by a user controlled amount. Planks: Designed to complement Lumber Yard, this extensions defines a pattern of planks suitable for use in a bump channel, or as a mixer for any other shader. 3d Noise Factory: A comprehensive noise package that gives the user total control. 3d Spherical Gradient with turbulence: Excellent for paricle shading effects Other Extensions- Morpher: Morph targets come to Carrara! Morpher provides the capabilites of plug-ins that cost over $80 for Carrara's antecedant, Ray Dream Studio. This plug-in lets you achieve smooth facial animation, as well as many other effects. The process is simple: First, create your base object. Then, make copies of your object and modify them. Apply morpher to your base object, and it will smoothly interpolate between any number of target objects! 4d Volumetric Clouds: Animating volumetric clouds in a variety of shapes, with multiple user definable colors. Noise Tweener: Add randomness to your animations, great for use with Morpher Noise Deformer: Your model looking too perfect? Blast it with some noise! Provides the user with total control over the parameters." Fabien CREAFab, la crtion numique autrement...

Right, I saw that, Fabien. It's just that there isn't a bone or lipsynch plugin listed there, or on losthorizonsoftware.com either. Morph targeting is not the same as boning, but it certainly makes bonig look better. Also, without morphs, it would be challenging, if not impossible, to do a lipsynch. So it's a vitally important plugin to boning/lipsynch, but it's not the same thing, if that was what was confusing you. Nebula Supernova Studios

I got it. If you especially looking for bones, the Carrara Power Pacl is not exactly what you need. Will any company or mad developper make a real bone plug-in ? Fabien CREAFab, la crtion numique autrement...
