Subject: Tool for making characters cross-compatible w A3/V3-4 etc?

One major hassle I'm finding, is trying to keep track of what characters can go with what morph forms and how to remember it all... and short of putting a lot of work into making a bunch of different runtime libraries (eg V3 or V3 and V4 or A3 only or Miki only and A3 or...???.... aggh)..

Anyone know if there's a tool/way to universalize the characters/poses/morphs more effectively?

It would be great to apply characters/poses across multiple figures, even to just see how it looks etc... I think P7 is supposed to have some kind of more universal joint morphs etc..

any ideas on how to keep track of all this stuff?  I can see it's going to snowball into a massive "I can't find what goes with what" exercise quickly otherwise...

Morphs won't ever be universal between V4 and the DAZ gen 3 figures, because they have different geometry and different mapping.  The EF figures (Miki, Sydney, Jessi) also have different geometry from all the DAZ figures, and nothing is cross compatible there either.  I doubt that will chnage in the long run, because converting their rigging and mapping is something that can't really be done with automation (or not very well, imo)

P7 has a feature called "universal poses" but all it applies to is poses (and not all that amazing even at that).

Normally, if a character ends with 3 it's a Mil3 character and poses are compatible for the most part.  You may have to do some minor tweaking but not much.  V4 is an entirely different character and her mesh is different so a lot of poses will work but a lot will need some major tweaking so that they appear correct.

I haven't had much luck with the Universal Pose format in P7.  It doesn't work as advertised for me and I end up tweaking the pose before saving it to my V4 folder.

thanks ... poser art is so much fine, and now that I'm up to 8 gigs and counting, lol, my biggest challenge wil be how to keep track of all the pieces of this gigantic puzzle, re what goes with what... I bought the hogsoft.com programs, but haven't figured them out yet.. ah well the journey continues..

There are ways around incompatible geometries. Look up the Cage and Spanki python thread.

well in any case even if the geometry is the same, and you can transfer morphs you still are dealing with totally different shapes, so a morph for Aiko, won't look the same on V3, or Steph Petite or any other figure, and in fact at full strength will likely have defects due to the difference in relitive positions of the point origins. so trying to get the same character with the same morphs on different figures is pretty much impossible.

Only 8 gigs?  My smallest external runtime is nearly 5 gigs and my largest is now close to 40 gigs (I have 23 external runtimes at the moment but I'm re-organizing so that will go down with nested folders).

ken, I understand.  I've been building content for Poser since Ver 3 and I don't have a lot of it installed any longer because it's just too much. 

I'm in the process of redoing my entire Runtimes drive, which has all of my external runtimes on it, like I said.  I'm doing this out on my external hard drive so that I can take my time organizing things in a new way just to cut down on the duplicates and clutter.  I'll be offloading any content I haven't used in a while to another runtime but I'll still have close to 80 gigs of content loaded.  Between me and my partner, we've got enough to fill and 160 Gig hard drive and it's all different.

True, but there are ways around this too. For instance, David comes with a morph to make his head look like M3. Convert your morphed M3 head into a single morph. Make an injection of it. Use UMT (universal morph transfer) to convert the morph to David. Injection the your custom M3 head, then inject David's M3 head. Set both morphs to 1. WaLa! Now David is wearing the face you made for M3! ^^ It takes more work than most people would do, but it is possible if you are determined. ^^ bB
