Subject: Oven Mits

grichter ( ) posted Sat, 30 June 2007 at 5:20 PM · edited Mon, 23 December 2024 at 12:40 AM

We have various kitchens, kitchen poses, BeyondVR's cookies and cakes, etc. But poor V3-V4...I can't find any 4 sale or freebee oven mits. If I am not careful she will burn her hands in my scenes. Anybody got a clue if anything like this is available any where? thanks a ton in advance for any help.

Sorry, I haven't seen anything like that around.

Try asking in the "Freebie" forum. Perhaps someone there will make a pair for you.

Wow, I buffaloed the link master...unbelieveable I never have taken the chance to thank you for all the links you have posted in the past....thanks for all you do!

Based on the number of kitchens over at Daz and the poses there, and the number of baking items in the freebies surprised after searching all morning not to find anything. Will post in the freebies shortly. Thanks for the reply

You know, I actually gave them some thought a couple of weeks ago.  I didn't like the idea of them having to follow a Poser hand, and forgot about them.

One of the things that bothers me about Poser hands is that they don't do the bend a real hand does picking something up with mits.  The large bones in the hand turn around toward the thumb, more at the pinky end, making it look like the palm has a valley that runs from the base of the index finger, diagonally, to the base of the hand.  Know what I mean?

How about a figure that you parent to an invisible hand, that follows the hand, but has its own, more natural bends?  I've never really done something like that, but I think I'll give it a try.  You might get something from someone else quicker, though ;)  Good luck!

sounds like something Trekkiegrrrl would have on the 'to do' list at least..;) If you go for the really basic 'finger slot, thumb slot', the only hard thing would be to make it poseable.

BeyondVR, just so you know there are boxing gloves in the free stuff here. I did not down load and examine. But I would assume they would have the same problem with the fingers, even if the boxing gloves are considerably larger then oven mits in overall size. My own rreal life experience with oevn mits is you don't grab or close your hand very much. Lot of thumb and fingers flat useage.

Thanks everybody for the replies.

Boxing gloves would be the easiest.  Poser fingers bend that way, and the hand doesn't need to change.  What I'm talking about, and it really has nothing to do with gloves, is that the Poser "hand" is just a solid piece.  Mine changes shape.  Hold your hand up and move the fingers toward the thumb, and vice versa.  Because the hand in made of individual bones that can move independently, within limits, you get a crease where the red line is.

Try picking something up bending only your fingers and thumb.  It's not very pretty (see picture), yet that's the way Poser people do it.  No wonder there aren't too many fat ones.

There is a DAZ set of dog sled outfits that comes with mittens. They could work in a pinch, especially if you made them a bit bigger.
