Subject: V4.1 characters

Just a doubt...

I have not yet upgraded my V4 to V4.1: I have read some bad experiences about her in the forum, and being that my V4 works perfectly, I don't want to "awake the sleeping dog", as they say here in Italy.

Now in the Marketplace I start to see a lot of characters labelled "for V4.1", without other compatibility indications. I was wondering what this means exactly. What would happen trying to apply them to a "standard" V4? Would they work?

Thanks,

Giorgio

Hi Georgio!

My understanding is that you definitely need V4.1 if you want to install the extra morph packs (muscle morphs and creature morphs), and since there are morphs in V4.1 that are not in V4 characters using those morphs obviously won't work.

Skin textures, clothing etc are totally compatible, unless the texture makes use of the V4.1 eyebrow prop.

When you install V4.1 (a more complicated procedure than normal- read the instructions), it does not overwrite V4, so you have the option of using either. The only major issue that was new to V4.1 that I encountered was the head/morphing tool one, and even a non-programmer like me managed to follow the instructions posted in the daz forum to correct that!

Is there a link i could borrow to view this fix for the morphing tool on the daz forum?

From what I heard there are issues with V4 poses, but I don't know from experience.

Did Daz give a special deal on upgrading from 4.0 to 4.1?

Re V4.1/morphing tool crash.
I couldn't find the thread at Daz with the solution, But it is also given in the CP forums. Here it is

The problem appears to be the following :-
Two of the channels in "!DAZVictoria 4head5-ps_pe070_DAZ_Chnnls.pz2" have an "indexes" line with a non-zero value, but no actual morph deltas.
Changing the number after indexes to 0 stop the morph tool from causing a crash.
For those interested the morphs are :-
PHMEyesIrisConvexity
(has "indexes 529" needs "indexes 0")
PHMEyesIrisAlign
(has "indexes 881" needs "indexes 0")

Basically you need to open the code in a text editor (eg Wordpad), use the search function to locate the relevant code and change the numbers to zero.

The bigger question is, with the solution so simple, why haven't Daz corrected it themselves?

I still find many minor irritations with both V4 and V4.1, so I mostly still use V3.

If you have V4, V4.1 is a free upgrade. Since it leaves V4 intact, I can see no reason not to!

Me too, Starfish. I find V4 cumbersome and just... urgh.
I think I did a total of one render with her since I got her.

Yep. All you have to do is request a reset of your download of V4 and you'll automatically get V4.1 as a download, so it's entirely free. If you bought a bundle, just request a reset of the bundle; the only things you'll need to redownload are the V4 base package and the Morphs++ package since the other items included in the bundle are the same. Just a personal note of reference, I list V4.1 since I do use the brow prop/brow transmaps and some of the new face morphs in V4.1.
