I have battled with this for ages now and finally given up...

I have V4 in a pose sitting on some steps. Her head is twisted -8 degrees and her neck is twisted -10 deg, side-a-side -15 deg and bend -10 degrees (I have altered these all quite a bit with no effect). Her cheek shows distinct banding when rendered. nothing shows in Preview mode. I removed the skin texture.. her face looks fine... I rendered and the creases are still there.

See attached pic. Left hand pic is the problem as described, Middle is Preview mode with the skin removed (it looks fine with the skin texture applied too). Right hand pic is the middle pic rendered... the creases show up.

So, in desperation, what is happening anyone please?? and how can I fix it?

Thanks in advance!

It could be a problem with shadows actually. Maybe the shadow min bias is too low or the mapsize is too big. I had a similliar problem and for the longest time I thought it was my morph that caused those weird lines, but it was a problem with the lights. Try using ray traced shadows or increase/decrease the shadow min bias.

also raising the shadow map size on shadow mapped shadows will help add detail to the map.

IMO, if you follow Blackhearted's advice on rendering you can't go wrong.  You will find his tutorial on rendering in almost all of his products.

I would also recommend forgetting all about depth mapped shadows.  I asked this forum some time ago about the advantages and I was told that the main reason is the render time.  That's true; raytraced shadows in an image take a hell of a lot longer.  But hey, they are at least reasonably accurate and they don't make as big of a hit on your RAM.  At least with raytraced shadows you get a reasonable approximation of how they would be in the real world but depth mapped shadows are a pathetic joke.

Also, you should save out as PNG, which has no compression.  If you save as JPG, then you need to be taken to see a big dog.

Poser 7 SR1 / SR2 lighting and shadows are just kind of boogered up.

Depth mapped shadows are great in principle, just Poser 7 does them pretty poorly compared to some other apps out there.
