Subject: How to remove a group from a .cr2 file?

Black_Star ( ) posted Wed, 04 July 2007 at 12:02 PM · edited Wed, 27 November 2024 at 6:58 AM

Hy there!

I was curious how I can remove groups from a .cr2 file?Is there any utility out there (free or not) that does this in a clean and simple manner?
Thank you in advance!

Best regards!

Can you show more specifically what you're after?  The word "group" has a
half dozen different meanings in this context.  Thus, "removing a group"
could mean several different things, from deleting a body part to
merging two material zones.

Agreed.
It depends on what you want to erase, on which is the easiest and/or fastest way to do it

I have made a clothing item. And I used the basic V4 developer example to make my clothing item conforming , only that the result has all the body groups of the example. And I want to delete those groups that I don't need.

Take the clothing into the setup room and delete the bones from the clothing that you don't want.  I suggest that you leave one more body part/group past what the clothing itself has.  You might want to open the hierarchy editor as well when you are in the setup room, but before you delete any bones and disconnect the first one in a 'chain' that you don't want to use and move it to the body.  It will keep your JPs in order a little easier.

Example:
an arm on a long sleeve shirt -- move the first finger joints from the hand to body.  Then delete the fingers.  Leave the hand.

When done with the figure, leave the setup room...and save it back out the library.
You will still need to rename the figure, check for any left over morphs/morph groups and extra materials.

cr2editor
there are two or three similarly named utilities that will let you edit a cr2.  There are few threads about it here. It's way past my bedtime, otherwise I'd dig out a link for you.. you should be able to find a few links just with a search function in here :)

Sorry, I tend to do most cr2 editing either by hand or in Poser.  Utilities are good too. :)

Sixus , I also do my .cr2 editing by hand , but it's very tiring and I canot go past it without making at least one mistake , and that drives me crazy.I am very meticulous , and here is to my disadvantage...I try to keep my mental sanity , and that was the reason I was looking for an editor.
Thank you both!Your replies were very helpfull!

Best regards!

I wouldn't recommend editing everything by hand in a cr2....precisely why you said...it is tiring and very prone to mistakes being made.

Good luck with your rigging!

BlackStar,

As said by others there are a few editors out there, I use CR2 editor by John Stallings...just google it and you'll get more than enough hits. Another is CR2 Builder.

I would link you but rendy is not link friendly...just their way of say how much they care. 😉

No, seriously...you can't post links here anymore ?  That is absurd.

Conniekat8 ( ) posted Fri, 06 July 2007 at 5:03 PM

Sure you can. It's done all the time.
I was kind of wondering what Dark Edge was talking about...
The only change is that they want most self-promoting freebies advertized in the freebie forum, by the author.
Any other links, like the ones you just posted, are fine.

Initiall, when there was a thread about a change about the self-promotion type freebie advertizing, lot of people misunderstood it meant that no links to free things are allowed in there. That is not the case.  <-opps, I should have made it bold, instad of underlining and making it look like a link ;)

They changed the policy to something more reasonable, so that it's only announcements of things that are supposed to go in the special forums.
Linking things in response to questions is fine.

Oh, I don't visit here a whole lot anymore...I just remember a huge stink a while back and blah, blah, blah.

So I'm behind the times again...what else is new?

I prefer cr2 Builder availible at this link, its a bit more robust then cr2 Editor. and has more modern editing features. the benifit of these free cr2 editors is that everything is grouped in a very organized manner, so doing something like what you are asking, is extremely easy.

I use Poser File Editor (which, oddly enough, I bough here) almost exclusively these days.  It is a great program, which doesn't ever make bad CR2s (which a lot of the more automated programs will, if you start doing non-normal stuff).

I used to use John Stalling's great program, but it can't handle the big CR2s we have these days.

I'll fill you in on what you have to do to remove a group properly if you ask me at Poser Pros.  ;-)
