Ok I have a couple of ideas
First one is Distant Worlds. Basically a sci-fi based theme whether it be in space or on a planet no real explanation needed.
Or Secret Garden, creating a garden that you would like to have all to yourself.

No restrictions on imports or postwork, only that postwork doesn't overwhelm the image and the majority is in Bryce.
So if you could say one or the other I will leave this thread open for a couple of days and we go with the majority.
Thanks
Joe

Distant Worlds sounds good to me.

skiwillgee ( ) posted Mon, 02 July 2007 at 7:48 AM

I like the garden thing because it is a departure from the norm.  The sci-fi would attract more entrants possibly..

I VOTE THE SECRET GARDEN.

Definitely Secret Gardens.

I vote for Distant Worlds

could we not just do both? it would make it very interesting... Imagine a Very good Distand Worlds Image head to head with a realy good Secret Garden Image.

SunsetHunter ( ) posted Mon, 02 July 2007 at 8:16 PM

Do I get a prize for coming last? :-)

Though I like the sci-fi theme of Distant Worlds, I think Secret Garden has more mass appeal, so i'd vote for that to be the next theme. Like rj001 said, it could be a Secret Garden on a Distant World! :-)

Dann-O ( ) posted Mon, 02 July 2007 at 11:33 PM

Like distant worlds secret garden well not so much . I'll do a distant worlds one.

Cool! Gardens! It'll give me another excuse to use the ivy generator :-)

Glad you liked the old stuff theme :-)

What a strange coincidence! I had the honor of picking the July challenge theme for the Wings3D forum and "Secret Garden" was in my top two!  I saw that you were considering secret garden as the Bryce Forum challenge theme so I changed directions and picked "bridges" instead."Gardens" is a good theme for Bryce and I think you'll get a lot of great entrys.

I have to agree with TheBryster. This was all decided too fast. For some yesterday was a holiday. This is stating to look like an exclusive club.

SavantNoir ( ) posted Thu, 05 July 2007 at 11:49 PM

LOL......I can't do either distant worlds OR secret gardens (but heck, it will give me something new to try I suppose)....Open to whatver is finally decided.

Whats with the Thumbnail thingie that we are not supposed to forget?  (are we supposed to do somethign with it?)

(err....double check the pt count, because when I counted I had Dan Whiteside in Third, and me behind by one...double check to make sure)

orbital ( ) posted Fri, 06 July 2007 at 1:21 AM

R jay, most people don't give a choice of challenges for people to vote on : ) and if it is a little quick well this was supposed to be decided on at the beginning of last month.

I agree with Orbital - I was surprised, and pleased, we were given nya choice at all! The idea of a challenge after all is to use the subject given to you, not to pick something you might prefer - where is the challenge in that? :-)  Yes, it is an exclusive club - only Bryce users can apply to join! :-)

Now, hand me the Ivy Generator and lets get stuck into 'Secret Garden'

Sorry to all. Still very new at this and I hope I didn’t mess anyone’s feathers. So on to the garden in a distant world.

orbital ( ) posted Fri, 06 July 2007 at 3:19 AM

Thats ok Rjay, I had just got up so was a little grumpy.

http://joevinton.blogspot.com/

orbital ( ) posted Fri, 06 July 2007 at 3:28 AM

Savant noir point taken, but as I couldn't physically close the thread I posted a message to say Zhann said I could tally the results therefore closing voting. Rjay posted a vote after this. I think the best thing to do is leave the result as it stands, but if AS does check in and gets time to officially close the challenge, he can choose whether to include all votes.
I'm not trying to act as a stand in mod or anything, but a lot of people wanted closure on this and as the winner looked to me to get things moving.

SavantNoir ( ) posted Fri, 06 July 2007 at 7:37 AM

Oh, I agree the thing should be closed, and done so long ago.....I still thought Dan had won third before the last vote...guess I was wrong.  WHat about the thumbnail thing?  Whats that all about?

Orbital: Thanks for the lagtime. I think that both could be achieved here, but a Secret Garden -other-worldly or otherwise is the way to go.

I am most appreaciative that orbital even canvassed us at all to see what challenge preferences were.  He won the challange hands-down.   The winner gets no prize other than the recognition by his/her peers and gets to name the next challenge.  Thank you, orital.

croowe ( ) posted Fri, 06 July 2007 at 10:15 PM

The thumbnails are just a small sort of prize. Once a year there is a challenge to create the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place graphic for the monthly challenge winners. If you have a website or gallery somewhere on the net and you win on one of the monthly challenges you can add "your prize" to the picture if posted somewhere, or place it directly on your site.

Death_at_Midnight ( ) posted Fri, 06 July 2007 at 10:56 PM

Yep, the challenges are usually just issued.

Thanks croowe! I couldn't have explained the thumbnail prizes better!

Now the hard part ... choosing which old/abandoned garden project to take up for this challenge!

SavantNoir ( ) posted Fri, 06 July 2007 at 11:23 PM

Oh, i didn't know that.......thank you!  :)

Incognitas ( ) posted Sat, 07 July 2007 at 2:46 PM

Oh plants seem to takes the longest render times in Bryce...I'd rather do Distant Worlds...

SavantNoir ( ) posted Sat, 07 July 2007 at 2:57 PM

(i'd rather do "make the best sphere you can", otherwise it is getting too technical for me to compete!)
