I've had this old 3DS model for years but never felt up to the task of updating it for Poser til now! I spent the weekend tearing the 3DS object down to it's componant parts in Poser 6 using the grouping tool and tonnes of patience and sweat. I'm now building it back up piece by piece adding to the original for an updated and functional Poser Prop. Finally I know enough of UVMapping and the Poser Grouping tool to make this old ship finally fly in Poser!

I'm not shooting for historical accuracy yet. I'm just trying to get close with the skills I have and make it more fun for rendering. Here's another shot I've been working on the atomic generator thingie. I'm doing nearly all of the modeling in Poser itself except for a few geometrical items I'm making in Carrara 5. I'm doing all my texture grouping and assignments in Poser as well after I get a good UV map from UVMapper classic.

Oh that's the original GIF file that came with Jame's Murphys shell. I don't care much for it either but it's included anyway. People can always retexture the outter hull easy enough.

Ah,, ok.. the original model didn;t have any panel lines at all.

If you are looking for reference imges, search for Polar Lights Jupiter II or Ron Gross's Jupiter II.

Ron did a scratchbuilt real world model J2 that was as accurate to the original moel as humanly possible. Then Polar Lights contacted them, and together, they produced a styrene plastic model kit based on Ron's input. it was released on both regular and Chromed versions. (I own both)

It even had a complete interior, even though there's no way a real world show interior would fit inside it.

I already bought the SpaceShipL1 a few years ago. This project is basically me just finding out how easy it is to model in Cararra by upgrading the old James Murphy Jupiter 2 and interior that I've had forever. Once I make this one more useable, I'll try my hand at starting on an accurate one from scratch. The old readme on this one said it was free to be modified and redistributed so that's my plan. Make it workable and let it go in my freebies gallery.

Free is always good.  I love the chariot here, abd the Robot someone else has available, but both are grossly over priced, IMHO. if they were paying royalties, I could understand it, but when they aren't, then $25 for the robot or $35 for the chariot is just way high.

Yep -- modeling work is always fun.  And thanks for sharing yours.

Yeah I have that robot and I still use AofD's free one more often. Never bought that chariot either.

The whole family loaded up makes for some memory issues, but it renders pretty well.
