THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: "Great POV!"

I know POV stands for point of view, but what the f**k do these people mean?

My self-build system - Vista 64 on a Kingston 240GB SSD, Asus P5Q Pro MB, Quad 6600 CPU, 8 Gb Geil Black Dragon Ram, CoolerMaster HAF932 full tower chassis, EVGA Geforce GTX 750Ti Superclocked 2 Gb, Coolermaster V8 CPU aircooler, Enermax 600W Modular PSU, 240Gb SSD, 2Tb HDD storage, 28" LCD monitor, and more red LEDs than a grown man really needs.....I built it in 2008 and can't afford a new one, yet.....!

My Software - Poser Pro 2012, Photoshop, Bryce 6 and Borderlands......"Catch a  r--i---d-----e-----!"

Typically FOV..... ;)

Most likely the angle at which you've set your perspective view.

When so many CG 'artists' use a plain-jane straight-on view to the subject, with everything centered in the frame; seeing a piccy that approachs the subject from some other viewpoint can be a revalation to the uninitiated. Breaking out of the pack gets noticed, Paul. I just wish more 'artists' could learn from what they see!

in most cases, they like the render but don't know what to say. so they say 'great pov'

in other cases, they just go 'hugz, kisses, xxxxoooxxxx', etc., which tends to be even more annoying.

I use 'great POV' or similar wording in a lot of my comments as I appreciate when the artist has explored an unusual viewpoint of their subject, instead of just taking a straight-on view. Its always a good thing to look at something from a different viewpoint. Definitely complimentary.

Everytime I see POV in capitals I think of another Ray Tracing program  POV - Ray.

I'm with Analog-X... that's what I think too.

Altering the field of view or pitch/roll of the 'camera' can help enhance the look of an image no end. Also an image of an aircraft landing (for example) is much more interesting when taken from beneath the aircraft than it would be when taken from, say, the edge of the airfield, so the 'camera' location is an important part of the composition. In these cases I agree with SunsetHunter and think it is a fair compliment to give.

Yes, it does.  For me - coming from a writing background - it means the way a book is written, for instance there is 1st person POV, third person limited POV and third person omniscient POV.  Omniscient is the most commonly used, third person limited less so, and 1st person even less than that.

There are other povs, like second person, but that's hard enough to understand never mind actually use.  Then there's fourth person, which is just plain weird, but if you want to know more look here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Point_of_view_(literature)

But I guess the whole idea is lost if you then go on to say - 'but writing is art too'...

In which case... no.
