Observe TheWolfWithins Pc-only guitar from freestuff. This was downloaded onto a MAC and now here it is. The file was simply dragged to the Stuffit icon then converted with the converter thing. Some files have to be downloaded onto a PC since the MAC version of IE5 pretends their not there, and then Hotmailed to and opened on the MAC. I dont post to freestuff so how it works at that end is a mystery

"PC/MAC only" would only really apply when there is an actual executable. PCs cant run MAC files and vise versa (without the use of emulators/converters of course). As far as archives go, both systems can open either .sit or .zip. Some people might think it has to be .zip for PC or .sit for MAC and select it on their upload according to that idea.

I have to confess that I've always assumed that there is a difference to the way Mac writes and handles files - hence the need for a converter. Anything I do is done on a PC and I've noticed OS problems arising between Win98 and NT/2K, rare but sometimes compatibility issues are raised. As for sit/zip yes, either machine can open them, but surely there is some information added/stripped by the MacConverter program? Isn't it better to know that the file is purely Mac/PC based so that you know it needs to be fiddled with before it will work the way the author intended? Or am I way off base here?

Well I have been able to open most stuff with the convertors .. and most peopel could go into the cr2 and fiddle with them to make them work. That is if you know how to do them. I just check and see if it is an exe .. If it is then I skip it ... Otherwise it is fine and doesn't matter thanks to MartinC .. well mostly

PCs are going to have a lot more problems with Mac Poser files than going the other way. If the files are Stuffed they still have the Macbinary headers on them, I would guess the PCs will choke on that until they are stripped and the right extensions added. And Mac CR2s don't have RSRs as company, they are all in the same file. In the real world, however, Mac users expect to be able to convert PC files, PC users don't have the slightest clue on converting Mac stuff. So except for programs, the only valid choice would probable be: "PC/Mac" or "Mac Only" BTW, I consider myself Bilingual, as I one of the very few who use both all the time!

The current PC,Mac,PC/Mac choice dates back to the early days of Poser3 where it was a significant problem - remember, it first took some time until the how-to PDF was first posted, even longer time until Budgie released his legendary AppleScripts, and much more time until I did my initial 0.5 converter... Today it is thankfully obsolete (except for the Utilities slot), but it's probably hard now to change anything. A new scheme could be: - PC ready (zipped PC library files) - Mac ready (stuffed Mac library files) - PC/Mac (hybrid formats like textures, ready to use on both platforms) - PC only (compiled tools) - Mac only (compiled tools) However, it would terribly difficult to change all the old settings, because there is no default rule for it, so it's probably best to leave it as it is (and to tell Mac people occasionally that they don't have to be afraid of the "PC only" mark... :-)

The fact is its possible, its happening and the world is a happy place. The picture is a perfect example (if I remembered to post it) with the newly downloaded PC only Zombielle LeGrave as well as the Guitar. Only problem now, is where is all the other KISS stuff? Ps rumour is that Gene Simmons is working on an animated KISS series... ...?

Those things invisible to IE on Mac are visible in Netscape on Mac... So it's a Microsoft quirk, not a Mac quirk.
