Would anyone out there be interested in making an animation that would be set to some of my bands music using poser models of us that we have made? Ive modeled us, but cant get enough time in front of the machine to build a whole 3 min video, anyone want to take a shot? Hit me up!

I “might” be interested but that all depends on just how much work your willing to put into it yourself.

After listening to your example I can hear that you guys are a bit more than just wishful thinking want-a-be’s and a rock animation is something that I’ve wanted to try. The only question is how much in to this project you guys will be.

Right off the top what are you looking for? A performance piece or something stylized?

Before even beginning you need to have a concept to set the direction and the development of the assets.

Can you supply me with all and any video references required? I could freeform the piece but then it would not be you and the band but rather my interpretation of the music.

Also keep in mind that 3 minuets of animation, even in a performance piece, can take “months” to produce and I already have enough real life commitments that such a project will defiantly be a hurry-up-and-wait proposition.

But

To get things started I would first want to see a video performance of the piece you wish animated. Sorry for being bottom line about this but.

 1)      There are “TONS” of go nowhere projects out there that just up and disappear.

  1. If your not able to supply proper and quality references from a hardware point of view then there is no point of even starting in the first place.  I’m talking quality and not something taken with a cell phone.

I'd be willing to help too but you'll have to be a bit more specific in your needs. I do animation for the part. But I would need an idea or two from you for a concept.

And no, it doesn't take months to produce, I can can have it done in under a week, depending on what you have in mind.

A 3 minute animation should only take 5 hours or so to render out. I've done longer than that in less than a few days but then thats all I do, animation.

Hye both of you, I didnt expect such a quick repsonse! We;re not too sure on an idea for the concept, but it could be something like:

  1. we're superheroes doing all kinds of cool stuff
  2. it could be a damel in distress type thing
or 3. could be a vid of a girl going through a frustrating day.

Depending on which song would be chosen there are multiple idas at hand. lets see if I can et a bit more specific as I list shorter songs, to make video life easier lol, I will talk about live video underneath these 5 songs, so keep scroling hehe:

Songs all available for listening here:
http://www.finespunmusic.com/HTML/Music2.htm

  1. Inviisible  - straight out rock tune in which the person who is the subject of the song offered help with whatever her problems are but for no good reason refuses the people that are trying and remians "Invisible" to being comforted....or you can take it as her feeling alienated from the people around her.  Once such idea is to have an actual invisible character walking around seeing things happen and thinking, why cant it be me?

  2. Against the Fallout - origgianlly written about a freind of ours whos boyfreinds just continued to be awful to her, they finally broke up which left her stupidly wondering if that was the right thing to do, but instead is written from the male point of view. Chrius being "What she wants, whatever, I blame myself for losing it all...Against the Fallout, Grace are you near?" - which to us means, in the face of all the horrible things happening at the end of this relationship, is any form of grace near that will save us from this madness!"  Now this doesnt have top be some lovey dovey concept, but can also be an exploding end of the world type situation, interpreations is up to you.

  3. Bulletproof - song probably most suited to the superhero idea, basically about whatever life throws at you, suck it up and deal "Ill face it all in my bulletproof vest" being the chorus line. Anything along the lines of having things bounce of you like they were nothing would do.

  4. Hourglass - Think of perhaps someone who is extremely neurotic and focusing on a particular situation. His thoughts are moving so quickly while he thinks (or she thinks) that they "run rapid through the hourglass), some slo motion stuff mixed with some high speed stuff might be nice.
Track available at our myspace, www.myspace.com/finespun

  5. 4 Walls One Window - This is a song about complete frustration and is short in length. It was actually half inpired by Prison Break as 4 walls 1 window refers to a jail cell, and therein that feelinj you get about being trapped with no where to run ina situation thats futile which you dont know how to lift the burden off yourself in order to get back to normal life.
    Avialable for listening at http://www.numberonemusic.com/finespun/

Now, as far as live video taken of the band, we had tons of vid we were compilning for a DVD of us when we found out our bassist wasnt doing the right thing and we had to part ways, we have a new bassist now and reaaaaaal shortly will begin the video taking stuff again. If youd like to see us live, Im sure I can arrange a clip or two to link you to (just let me know if you want it), if you want live footage to integrate into the animation you create, that can be arranged in the coming weeks as well.

I hope that answers some questions for you guys, let me know if either of you are still interested and if you have any other questions!

PS guys- If you already have some animations created that you would like to fit our music to, that would be fine as well, in fact any number of short animations that we can set our music to would be great also. Of course we would give the artist credit everywhere we use the video as well!
Thx

Inviisible should be the band animation. You could set it up on a simple stage. For animation I recommend all low poly figured because the hi-res ones will take much longer to render out. You could mix live with 3D in the background. I've been listening to your tunes, you guys rock. So you may want to go with something that is either heavy metal or do a super hero theme.

I think super heros would suit you guys.

My faves would be Inviisible & Bulletproof , their catchy.

finespun ( ) posted Sun, 15 July 2007 at 1:28 PM

I agree as they are shorter tunes and would make for musch less render time and trouble! hehe, see if Hourglass grows on you though, for us so far its been "hey, I heard that new song Hourglass and its ok"....then afew days later the same people write to us and go "I was wrong, Hourlass is my fav song! " lol...But I do hear what youre saying:) 4 Walls, same thing. But if you want to do Invisible or Bulletproof, thats totally cool with us! Super Heroes would rock as we're all Marvel fans hehe, perhaps something assigning special powers to each of the members! Live and 3D footage mixed would be awesome too, just have to wait to get some live footage of our new bassist (who just joined to replace our old one a few weeks ago) to get you that live footage.

How should we start to proceed? Any samples of your animation work online I could check out? I love watching rendered posted stuff!

Looking forward to your next post!

Well if all you’re looking for is adding motion to a model then that’s something that I’m not really interested in and not the kind of project I’m looking for. Granted that doing motion for the sake of motion is not all that difficult and anyone with, and with all due respect, a bit of software knowledge could pull off a pre-vis effort in a “very” short period of time..

As for some of my stuff.

NOTE: this is stuff I did six years ago (I really need to update ;) ).

Hey Frankie, relly digging the vids even if they are from 6 years ago! Im not looking for just some character animation, but Im looking for the whole video to be put together using models that I can supply of my bandmembers. I can also supply models of the instruments. I just need a video to be put together with those elements is what Im looking for. Is that something you would be into doing?

You may be able to recruit some of us to just help with the mindless rendering to reduce the burden on the volunteers tasked with the actual creative work.
