Subject: Creating MAT Pose file to Revert figure back to "Un-textured" state

Pandorian ( ) posted Sun, 15 July 2007 at 10:36 AM · edited Wed, 05 February 2025 at 12:07 PM

Howdy, I'm currently in the process of creating some mtlCollection files and then converting them into MAT Pose files when suddenly it came to mind that I might need to create a MAT Pose pz2 file that would remove all previously applied textures to my figure..... in other words, is there a way of creating a MAT Pose file that would "revert" the figure back to its original "un-textured" state (remove any previously applied textures in the event the user wanted to start fresh with his texture applications)?

Thanks in advance....

Load the original figure, make a MAT pose from it :)

Yep, I tried that before I made this post, but nothing happens when I try to apply it and have the textures removed.  At that point I figured I was doing something wrong.

On another note, I noticed that during the mtlCollection to MAT Pose conversion, that for some reason when I changed the line that read "} mtlCollection" in the MC6 version that when I changed it to "} figure" and added the "internal" name of the figure, the texture didn't take..... (IE, } figure 4SWringUD) ..........HOWEVER, when I left out the "internal" name in the line change for the MAT Pose version, the texture took.  I don't know if that makes any difference at all, or if it should even work that way as I was told the "internal name" needed to be added to that line in the MAT Pose version.

Okay .. I just tried it (in Poser 6) and it worked fine. What I did was load Michael 3, click on a body part, go to the material room, add a Material as a material collection, save it as "Blank." I then went loaded a texture, saw it was all loaded, and then loaded blank and it worked totally fine.

If you are making a Mat pose for P5 or whatever you have to change two lines in the code of the MC6. I can't remember them right now but that is all you have to do. Hope that helps.

Okay Ghostofmacbeth, I still must be missing a step because I just followed your set up and I'm still unable to remove the previously applied textures (bring the figure back to its untextured state after applying a MAT Pose).  Now, when I create the "blank" texture (using the original untextured figure) here's what I did.

  1. I made sure my figure was selected.
  2. Went to the Materials room
  3. Selected 1 of its 10 materials
    4, Created a node for it (New Node -- 2D Textures -- image_map)
  4. Left the image source as "None"
    6. Clicked on the "+" sign in the Materials Library to bring up the "New Material Set" prompt box
  5. Named it something descriptive such as "Remove Textures"
  6. Selected "Material Collection" option (as opposed to "Single Material")
  7. Under the "Select Material" tab, I left ALL the materials checked/selected
  8. Clicked "OK" to save
  9. Converted the mc6 file by changing the line "mtlCollection" to read "figure" then clicked on "save".  Went back and changed the extension of that file from mc6 to pz2.
  10. Transferred that pz2 file into the Pose library
  11. Went back to the Pose room and loaded the figure, applied a MAT pose texture to it, rendered it to make sure the texture took, then tried to remove the textures by applying the "Remove Textures" MAT Pose file I just created, but the MAT Pose texture I previously applied was still there.

Now could it be that my problem may be stemming from step #8 and/or #9.  Should I maybe "uncheck" ALL the materials instead of "checking" all the materials?

Other than that, I simply don't know what seems to be the problem.  I'm currently testing this on Poser 6, however my intention is to make this workable in Poser 5, 6 and 7 (and possibly Poser Pro)

Vincebagna, thanks for that link, it's very useful.  :)

Thanks so far to both of you (Ghostofmacbeth and Vincebagna) for your help thus far, I really appreciate it.  :)

Try the same you described but without applying the image map node, just leave all blank, and save your mc6. Just to be sure it's not because you applied an image node.

Between your steps 5 and 6:
--> Select both the PoserSurface node and the blank imageMap node
--> Right-click and choose "Apply to all"
--> Hold the SHIFT key and click on the "Remove detached nodes" wacro button.

Try to do my setup with no changes (ie selecting only certain materials, creating nodes, and converting it to a Pz2. ) and see if it works ... take it down to the base to see wher ethe process is messing up, then add one step (I am not sure why you are adding image nodes if you want it to be the default, but I am sure there is some reason) and see how that works, add another step and so on .. It could be as simple as there is a some error int he Pz2 conversion (I only do that once in a while so I can't spot it right off).

R_Hatch..... I utilized your suggestions and they worked like a charm!  :)  Thank you very much for helping me get past this hurdle.  I would also like to thank Ghostofmacbeth and Vincebagna for all your help, suggestions, as well as taking the time to help me out.  :)

I know down the line I'll probably forget this process, so I'll do as I do with all the info I pick up on the forums..... I'll print it out or PDF it  so it will be filed away for future reference.

Thanks again for all your help guys.... you guys are the best!
