Subject: Ocean Foam

Okay, I think I might be crazy, but I could've sworn I saw a tutorial on making foam in an ocean for Vue here or someplace very much like here.  Does anyone know what I'm talking about or did I make this up?

Thanks.

SeaVue Tutorial by Chipp and also other information by Monsoon. Just look in the forum. It's on this page. it's great and so is the information by Monsoon as well as his products.

Here's one that you don't need to buy SeaVue for:

This works really well.

Thanks everyone!  I don't have Seavue as of right now, but that could change.  I will look at both of these! Thanks much!

If you have Vue6Inf, there is a premade material layer for sea foam included, just drop the foam layer on your water layer and there you have it, you may need to make adjustments to get it how you want it but it's quicker and easier tahn going through the tute [which is a good one].

Oh really?  The foam comes with Vue 6 Pro too then (That's what I have) but I figured just dropping it was too easy.  (Lame, I know.  I didn't even try.)

Yea well it maybe isn't quite THAT easy, you will need to tweak it quite a bit to get it how you want it but it is a good starting point!! [LOL].
I'm just lazy so I try all the shortcuts that might work [LOL].

Hmm, I don't see this anywhere. Where would I find it, please?

In the advanced material editor you will see a tab for "add layer" click on that and the normal materials window comes up, in there is a set of materials called "material layers" and inside there you will see one for foam!
Apply that as a material layer and you have instant foam on the shore, well not quite, it will need tweaking to your liking!

You might like this one. It also has a good foam material: http://paroge.com/vde/tutorial/default.htm

Most of times creating a seascape scene, i'm not using the ground or a flat plane and add a regular liquid material, instead i create a procedural terrain (in the advanced function editor i choose the "ocean" function), adjust the wave length and height and then i create a mixed material - one a liquid material and the other a foam material.
That way i can control quite detailed, where i want the foam to appear - which should be mostly on the higher parts of the ocean surface, like the peaks of the waves should have most of the foamy material. To get this result i use the 'influence of environment' tab to set up the appearance in height, slope, direction sliders and using the 'smooth blending strip' in the 'material to mix' tab to make some more fine adjustments.
You could use a second copy of this ocean terrain and change some settings there, to mix it up with the first ocean terrain by changing the height, position, rotation a little bit ...
That's tuning work then ...
But that's just another way, to get some result working with water surfaces ...

I had no idea that was there! Thank you so much! :-)
