Subject: Trouble creating fire in Vue 6

ReaphSharc ( ) posted Sat, 21 July 2007 at 11:27 AM · edited Sat, 05 October 2024 at 3:25 AM

I'm working on a dogfight scene between two planes, one of which fires upon the other. The smoke from the cannons is no problem, but a flame (fire) shooting from the nossle of the gun is. I've perused through the manual provided with the CD, and I've given Google and this forum a spin, but no luck on how to do it just yet.

I've tried spheres with both 'flame' textures, but I'm far from getting the result I want.

Can someone give me a few pointers on how it can be done? Thanks in advance.

AsileFX just came out with a new training DVD on creating fire.  I have some of their other CDs and can recommend them as being a good value.

Cool link...!

Please post your results after learning more about fire.
I was going to recommend you use Particle Ilusions in post, but I'm sure it always looks better when you can keep it in the original scene.  Good luck!

Thanks for the link, but it is a bit beyond my current budget I'm afraid...

I'm someone who always tries to avoid a lot of post work (partially because I'm not very good at it :D )

I'm not experienced in animation but could you possibly make a static flame perhaps painted and put on an alpha plane and then just animating the transparency value making it flash in and out when fired?

Could be a solution. Thanks for sharing. I'm still hoping to actually render it, so I'll call that "plan B" ;-)

It'll be a still render, not an animation btw.

In that case....download this freebie and check out the engine exhausts. They could simply be turned around and used for cannon fire. Help yourself to the explosion object while you're at it. You'll also get jc's cool beans in there too!

Awesome link. I assume you meant EarthLight.

I'll look into it and if I get some results, I'll be sure to post it here.

Good Monsoon! Was just going to recommend your excellent work on crossed alphas for rocket exhausts, lol
